How To Choose Your Large Cat Carrier

Ideas On Choosing Large Cat Carriers

When it comes to choosing the right cat carrier for your large kitty, there are three things you need to take into consideration: weight, comfort (for you and your cat) and style. Large cat carriers come in so many different designs.

If you’re going to use your cat carrier primarily for trips, especially for those that involve airplanes, then you should look for one that’s lightweight. Having to carry a carrier plus a fat cat can really take a toll on your arms, shoulders and back.

Also, airlines could impose a weight limitation on pets and carriers since they might be considered as luggage or carry ons. You may want to opt for the ones made from durable fabrics instead of plastic or metal.

Cat carriers can succumb to a lot of damages during its life span. These damages could be inflicted by your cat or by the constant rubbing and brushing up against concrete floors, jagged walls or rough pavements.

Make sure to purchase a carrier that’s made from strong and durable materials. In addition to durability, you should also think about comfort ability for you and your cat. The shoulder straps and handles on the bag should be wide enough for ample support.

You can also choose a style that has wheels for rolling so you can pull the carrier around instead of having to always carry it. Features such as breathable mesh panels for ventilation, internal padded base, and locking zipper entrance to prevent possible escapes are vital for your cat.

Many of these carriers come in stylish designs. While some feature a look that’s easily recognizable to be a cat carrier, others can be fashioned to look more like trendy handbags or expensive luggage. They come in bright and funky patterns that are far from the sporty, mesh appeal of traditional carriers.

If it weren’t for integrated ventilation pouches, these carriers could easily be mistaken for regular handbags. Other cat carriers can resemble designs similar to that of baby carriers and baby slings. You also have some that can be worn like backpacks or pulled like trolleys.

No matter what kind of large cat carrier you choose for your cat, make certain it’s one that will suit both your lifestyle and comfort levels. Safety, security and durability are also amongst the many features your cat carrier should have. Large cat carriers are the best way to get around, especially if your cat weighs 30 pounds.

Lots of nice carriers listed here. Just need to keep in mind the temperament of the cat. My Bengal girl was angry and bit and tore the mesh door on a nice mesh crate I have.

There's more to cat carriers than meets the eye! Ours was a plastic one that somehow was crushed, (I tend always to blame husband) so when I needed one recently I had to beg and borrow. Some great ideas here for a replacement cat carrier. Thanks.

Meowvelous, says Terra the Terrific Tabby! She has a nice blue large cat carrier (but we tell her it's a medium so she won't think we consider her a bit of a Tubby Tabby).
