Goldfish is just one of my favorite pets and I have been keeping them for 10 years now and I never grow out tired watching them swimming gracefully in my aquarium. Scientifically named Carassius Auritus and it came the same family with Koi or carp, originate from main the land China. Hundred years before in Chinese history, goldfish are treated as a very precious pets and even the emperor's pets. I remember that time when i was in Malaysia, most of my Chinese friend kept goldfish in their house to bring good luck into their home and happiness... even until today.

There are many kinds of goldfish such as shubunkin, Fantail(Double tail), Panda, Pearlscale, bubble eye, black Moore, Lionhead (Red Cap), Ryukin, Telescope and comet. Many breeder now a days have successfully produce magnificent color of goldfish by cross breeding with the other varieties.

Goldfish can grow up to 10 inches long and life span can be expected up to 25 years old if you maintain a good quality of water, temperature about 22 - 27 degree Celsius and good food diet. This fish is can eat more than it can take so be careful not to over feed them as this may cause serious intestinal congestive.

Hi Jahnbar, What a great hub! Goldfish are among my favorites too, and it's a good thing because as you point out they do live a long time... so mine will be with me for awhile. I love the pictures too.
