Names for Red Dogs

Updated on March 13, 2019

Find the perfect name for your red dog

Did you just get a beautiful new puppy with a red coat? Choosing the dog's name just might be the most exciting part of getting a new puppy.

Using a physical characteristic, such as coat color, is a great way to come up with the perfect name. It doesn't have to be as obvious as Ginger, Ginger Dog, or Red, but those names do work. I know people who actually went with Ginger Dog and White Dog as their puppies' names.

I've gathered a list of great dog names for male or female dogs with red, or predominately red coats.

Whether your dog is red, brownish red, ginger, orange, or more of a strawberry blonde, I have a name that you will love!

Names for Red Dogs

Some of the most popular dog breeds are available in red coated varieties.

A partial list includes Dachshunds, Irish Setters, Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, Norfolk Terriers, Miniature Pinschers, Redbone Coonhouns, Chow Chows, and Basset Hounds.

Many of these dog breeds also come in other colors, but I think I love the red-haired ones best!

I would love a red standard poodle like the one shown above. It is a gorgeous dog and that red is a great color! It looks so majestic and full of life.
