Our Beagles - Sassy and Suzy
My girls are so sweet and funny !
And, they have SPRING FEVER !
They want to go out and dig and run and dig and play and - did I say dig - LOL
Over the Winter I have to get their nails clipped as they grow so fast.
The rest of the year, i don't need to because they run around outside and dig so their nails stay pretty short.
I love my dogs !
Beagles are so wonderful !
They are playful, fun, smart, not too big and not too small.
My girls were a year old when I got them so they already had bad habits.
They are very smart, but because there are 2 of them, it is so hard to train them.
I will get one of them to listen and then she will see her sister and I can almost hear her say "Sissy isn't doing it - so I'm not either..."
Oh well, I love them anyway, but life would be a whole lot easier if they were more disciplined - LOL
Here they are again = Suzy and Sassy
We almost lost Sassy last night !!!
March 6th, 2010
I was upstairs because I was tired and was relaxing on my bed while reading and watching TV.
Then, I hear hubby running up the stairs and sounding very upset !
My door opens and he comes into the room carrying Sassy over to me saying something about "help her" so i asked what was going on ???
He told he had just taken the girls outside and when they came back in, they each had their biscuit as usual.
Sassy was so excited that she forgot to chew and then started to choke !
By the time I had her (only maybe a minute had gone by), she was digging at her face with her claws and really struggling for air.
She was not breathing and was getting frantic !
She even started to foam at the mouth because she was freaking out !
I did several throat checks to try to dislodge it, did doggie Heimlich a bunch of times, massaged her throat to feel for where it was and if it was moving...
Hubby called 911 and she was usless and had no advice whatsoever !
After my repeated attempts to get it out, Sassy got very weak and started to get limp and to just lie on the floor. Up until that point, I was afraid to be too rough with my attempts to dislodge the dog biscuit because she had had a dislocated hip before and her ribs are so small... but now with her being so close to dying - I said to myself that I'd rather her have a cracked rib or hurt her hip and have her still be ALIVE than have her die.
So I grabbed her again and started doing doggie Heimlik a little harder than before and sure enough it flew out of her.
Then she looked at me as if to say "Momma, why were you shaking me and squeezing me, and sticking your arm down my throat ???"
Then, she got up, wagged her tail and went running into the living room.
I let her have a very small sip of water to let her get the foam rinsed away and then I had her relax for a few hours.
She got nothing to eat until this morning and then I had softened up some food because I didn't want her to injure herself in case her throat was scratched from my hand and arm being in there and from the biscuit being stuck.
I am putting my handmade balm on her poor mouth where she scratched it up with her feet. It'll have it healed in no time.
She is fine now.
I, on the other hand, have bruises all over my hand and forearm from her teeth. She didn't bite me but because my hand and arm were in her mouth and I was moving them around trying to feel for the biscuit, they have scratches and bruises. My whole hand swelled up for a little while because it got a small puncture and the skin was pulled loose.
I cleaned it out and it is better today - just bruised and sore.
And, my back and legs hurt because I was picking her up to help her and she is too heavy for me to do that - LOL
It was all worth it.
She is fine now.
My Beagles got a new collar and leash...
and new toys too...
I bought out a small pet store and have listed about half of the items in my eCRATER store after my fur-babies all got new gear of course.
Need a collar or leash for your dog or cat or an outfit, or harness... for your dog ?
The other half is on display here at my little shop, along with many other pet items like handmade dog treats, hand-crocheted cat toys filled with organic catnip and cat grass kits... .
Baths and vinegar to the rescue and fleas be gone !
I just gave my girls a bath with my handmade soap called Pet Lovers, then I gave them a vinegar rinse to kill the fleas they picked up on their walk.
They were scratching so much they were getting sore spots.
Hubby gave them several regular baths with store-bought dog shampoo and they helped for a little while, but not enough + my soap is gentler and all natural - what was he thinking - LOL
He didn't want to mess with the vinegar because of the smell, but it needed done - so I did it.
The poor girls did NOT like it at all !
But, neither do the fleas so it will be worth it.
Besides, the taste of the vinegar on their fur will keep the girls from biting at their sore patches.
Now they get a weekly bath with the soap that I made and a vinegar rinse too.
Bye Bye fleas !
I have soaps and balms... for people and for pets !
All Natural soaps for people and some pets too - rustic country style handmade soaps that are made with REAL herbs, flowers, spices... and nothing fake.
All Natural body balms for people and some pets
"Rescue My Skin" body balm
On my dogs and cats, and for my friends horses, we use my formula more than the rest because it is all natural and thus, I think safer.
For me, I like this original formula the best.
Even though my products are all natural, it is still possible to have an adverse reaction to them if you have an allergy - so please read the list of ingredients before using.
