Crochet These Easy PrettiPants For Your Doggie!

Accident Prevention Your Dog Won't Take Off!

You've bought every kind of dog pants, diapers, belly bands. They're laying there in the drawer, right? Your dog has managed to remove each of them, right? It's Dog 1, Owner 0, defeating your best efforts to house train little Fido or Fiona. Well, there's one thing you have not tried yet that may offer a real solution for you... PrettiPants.

PrettiPants is a very unusual looking doggie garment that you crochet to fit your dog's body precisely. You can make your PrettiPants with any type or weight of yarn. I always recommend using the 100% cotton worsted weight yarn. It wears like iron, you can machine wash, use bleach, and even dry it on a high heat setting if you wish. Nothing seems to affect the stuff.

Below you'll hear about how and why PrettiPants work and how you can obtain my original crochet pattern. Crochet up several for your poochie and stop being frustrated about doggie accidents in the house! These are also wonderful for incontinent dogs. You can tuck an absorbent pad into the PrettiPants and it will stay put!

These Are SO Easy To Make!

The only stitch required to make PrettiPants is single crochet!

Ladybug Just Wears Her PrettiPants As A Sweater!

Your Dog Won't Want To Have An Accident In Her PrettiPants!

Come on in to my studio! I'd love to show you something I made for my doggies! In all my years as a Miniature Schnauzer rescuer, I've cared for many older dogs who constantly had accidents in the house. Some were just downright incontinent. Aside from running my Hoover steam cleaner nonstop, I needed a real solution. All of the doggie incontinence aids out there for sale were basically a version of human panties. Some of the better ones had a place where you could insert a sanitary pad. I even tried toddler training pants with a tail cut into them. ALL of them had one problem: any respectable dog could get out of them in a few seconds!

One time when I had a particularly ornery little boy dog who insisted on marking virtually everything, everywhere, all the time, I was desperate. I took some fleece, a pair of scissors, and started thinking of what I could do to keep this rascal from destroying everything in my home. I came up with my own design, made a few of them, and started using them on the furkids. Miracle of miracles, they could not get them off! I'd go to do my errands, come home, and find the dogs still wearing them! I always called them their "Pretty Panties" when I'd put them on, silly me:) Nine times out of ten, their "pretty panties" would still be dry! Apparently dogs don't like the feeling when they have an accident with them on.

This year, many years later, it finally occurred to me: "Hey, you're a crochet designer, you could crochet these!" I got busy with hook and yarn and came up with a much more attractive version of my Pretty Panties, and I call them "Pretti-Pants." And you can make them yourself for your beloved furkid!

I was chatting with my sister last weekend about these, and she thought they would make a nice lightweight fall sweater for her tiny Yorkie, Lucy. I agreed! So check back in the near future and you'll see her Lucy Liu modeling my PrettiPants! My sister also suggested adding a harness fastener to the back, and I have now added that feature to the design.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope your furry kiddo will enjoy wearing his or her PrettiPants!

PrettiPants Helped Train Our Rescue Boy Sarge!

Sarge is a tiny 9 lb. Miniature Schnauzer whom we rescued from a puppy mill. Sarge knew nothing about living as a real dog, therefore it was necessary to do some house training! One of the advantages of PrettiPants is that the dog will feel wet if they go in their pants, and they do not like that feeling! Therefore it encourages them to stay dry.

The PrettiPants worked very well for Sarge. The outfit also served as a warm, toasty sweater to comfort him. I made Sarge's PrettiPants in brown and white to match his beautiful coloring. Isn't he pretty?

Sarge Our Rescue Boy Rocks PrettiPants!

Why Do They Stay On?

Because of the loop that goes around the dog's neck, and the fact that they have a waist wrap strap, the dog simply can't get them off! At least I've never had a dog who could.

Where can I get the pattern? I don't see a link anywhere. This is a great idea! I have 5 schnauzers.

A Word About Yarn Selection...

I really recomend you make your Pretti-Pants out of 100% cotton yarn. It's the most absorbent and comfortable material for your dog to wear. And it's bleachable, which is important because of what these are doing! You'll want to be able to toss them in with your towel load and bleach them as needed.

A Note From Your Designer...

Hi, I'm SheilaSchnauzies, also published as SheilaSparkles, and my life's passion is designing in Crochet! My other life's passion is Miniature Schnauzer Rescue.

I give away about 95% of my pattern designs free, most of them here on Squidoo (see the links to my free crochet patterns below). The other 5% are sold on my pattern store at Craftsy.com to benefit the vet expenses of my Miniature Schnauzer Rescue, Sheila's Schnauzies.

I do a lot of custom-fit patterns. The PrettiPants© are custom fit. They are made to fit your dog, not a measurement from a chart. They're surprisingly easy to do and actually end up fitting. That's a good thing, yes?

So glad you found my patterns! I hope you really enjoy making whatever it is you're making! Crochet hugs, -Sheila
