Meet Our New Pooch! Tales Of A Puppy In Training...

Updated on December 21, 2012

"Coco" the Shenise

So cute, so sweet, so adorable, I want her... That's all I remember saying when I first laid eyes on this picture that I had come across on the internet as the search was on to find my daughter a puppy. Prior to that, I have spent numerous hours and days calling local shelters, pet rescues, you name it, but without much luck. Then I finally found her! This little cutie (she is a Shenise, half Shih Tzu and Pekingese) with those precious black eyes melted my heart when I first saw her photo, not too mention the pain I thought she may be able to ease after my father-in-laws's recent passing. Heartbroken by losing such a wonderful, kind man, I figured a puppy would lift all of our spirits (especially my daughter) and guess what? This sweet 3 month old baby girl seems to be just what we needed! After driving a round trip of over 3 hours, we welcomed "Coco" into our home 4 days ago and she has been loving us, and keeping us really busy ever since. She's smart, cuddly, and full of energy! After an hour or so of deciding what to name her on the drive home, I suggested to my daughter the name "Coco" (for Chanel and for her coat color) and she loved it. Before that, we came up with Bella, McKenzie, Baby, Minka, Sweets, and more! LOL. All I can say is that even though training is going to be tough, I am so glad my husband and I decided to add her to our family (along with our cat "Wonder") and I know that in time we will heal from our loss, and having "Coco" in our lives will bring us such joy! But I must admit, I could use some tips on how to train the puppy as she is only 3 months old and loves to chew (everything! lol) pees and poos wherever she wants (not always on the pee pee pads) and wakes us up during the night. As we set out to raise our new bundle of joy, all tips are welcomed! And I look forward to hearing from you!! :) Oh, and "Coco" sends you kisses...

Hi Sunnie! Tonka sounds like such a cute puppy!! It's funny that you mentioned using a playpen, because that's what we've been putting Coco in when we're a little busy (it was my daughter's when she was little, found it in the shed lol) And Coco seems to like it... thank goodness! :)

Hi Angoliver! This is so cute. My dog was 18 months when I got her - and already house trained - so I am sorry I don't have any tips.

      Coco is a cute puppy!
