After knowing which turkey breed to raise, the next step in preparation for keeping turkeys for profit is to build a turkey pen. The pen should usually have a size of 10x10 feet. This pen with the aforementioned size can already house around twelve to thirteen turkeys. But if you want to raise more turkeys, you can expand and build a sun porch. A sun porch usually has a size of 8x10 feet. With this additional space, you can now house around 20 to 30 turkeys. The aforementioned pen size can seem to be very small but this is just enough for them. Most turkeys get confused in a large pen. They easily get confused and may forget where the feeders and waterers are.

Upon building the pen, next step in preparation for raising turkeys for profit is to know what you should place inside the pen. It is necessary to include a feeder, waterer and litter area inside your pen. Note that during the first days of your turkeys' stay in the pen, cover the litter area first. The turkeys should first know where the feeder is. They have tendencies of eating their litter. Aside from that, do not fill your waterers to the brim. There have been cases of turkeys drowning in the waterers.

After that, find out what feeds to use. There are four types of feeds. These are prestarter feeds, starter feeds, grower feeds and finisher feeds. As their names suggests, these four types of feeds are based on the age of when to feed them to the turkey. Different feeds will provide different nutrients for your growing turkey. The choice of feeds will really make a difference with the quality of the turkeys you produce.

Aside from the feeds, it is also important to pay attention to the drinking water of the turkeys. Do not give the turkeys cold water to drink. Cold water is lethal to turkeys. It is best to give them lukewarm drinking water. If you have extra budget, you can also place vitamin and mineral solutions to the water to make it more nutritious. Aside from that, place shiny colored marbles in the waterer to catch the attention of the turkeys.

Raising turkeys for profit is really a wonderful business. Start on raising your own turkeys now!
