Red Western Show Shirts

Updated on November 22, 2015

Western Show Shirts are Flashy in Red

If you are trying to decide on your show color for the coming season, why not try red? Red is a bright, vibrant color. It will draw a lot of attention to you and help you win that next ribbon!

Red is most often paired with black but you will frequently see it with black and white, silver, gold, or blue.

Solid black with simply red trim is another great option.

Red looks especially good with a black, or black and white, horse, but red will go with most color horses.

Men Look Great in Red Too

Women aren't the only ones who want to stand out in a show ring. You can find some pretty flashy show shirts for men in red too!

Not only do red shirts look great, but the western boots to match really makes it all come together.

Black and Red or Red and Black?

This shirt isn't red, it's black with red trim. Looks sharp! It just wouldn't look the same if you were wearing a blue shirt or a purple shirt with all the red on the horse's saddle pad. Make sure you're color coordinated so you have the best, most coordinated, look in your class.

Find a Good Deal on Your Red Western Show Shirt

If you don't want to pay full price for a western show shirt, you can find a good deal on a pre-owned one. Most of the time they've only been worn a few times and have been kept put away in a garment bag.

Western Pleasure

Check out these videos to see all the great colors that people wear for western showing. They range from purple to blue with every color in between. Most people like to have a lot of bling on their shirts also. A red shirt with black bling would look really awesome.

Red Western Boots

If you're going to wear red, you might as well go all the way right down to the boots. I would probably pick black boots to go with my red shirt but if you can find red ones that match just right then it would be okay.

Black Chaps To Go With Red Shirts - Red looks really sharp with black!

Sharp black chaps go perfectly with a red shirt. You could try another color like tan but the black will flow much better. If you have the right styles and color horse, navy blue or white would look nice too. I've seen white worn successfully but you have to be very careful not to get it dirty.

At the horse shows, you want to have a saddle pad that matches your shirt. It pulls your whole facade together and gives you a finished look to show off. Any tack store or online tack store will have red saddle pads and saddle blankets.

Halter and Showmanship Tips - You Can Find Them Here

The difference between halter classes and showmanship classes is who's getting judged. In a halter class, the horse is being judged. In a showmanship class, the person is being judged.

  • The first thing and most important thing is to make sure that your horse looks good.
  • Your horse should be bathed, brushed, banded, and shaved at minimum.
  • Your hair should be put up if it's long.
  • Your clothes should be neat and tidy. They should be coordinated too.
  • In Western showmanship, your pants should NOT be tucked into your boots.
  • Smile at the judge!
  • You think your horse is the best one at the show so make sure that's the way you are presenting your horse to the judge.
  • Practice, practice, practice!

Remember, everyone knows how to do the pattern. You need to make yourself stand out from all the rest of them. Paying attention to those few small details will make a difference!

Red is just a good overall color for western and rodeo wear.

I have a friend who has a daughter who rides competition... but in Australia they seem to go with the classic English style of dress! I like the Western style so much more ;-)
