My friend the Alsatian Shepherd with me through sad times -- a dog love story!

Updated on September 19, 2014

My dog love story's hero is Montgomerie, the Alsatian Shepherd dog that lives now far away from where I am.

Montgomerie used to be Bill's dog, my live in partner in Botswana. Monty became one of my best friends later as we had to rely on each other in our grief. German Shepherds are not African animals, they have been brought in by European immigrants on to the hot continent but this dog liked his life in Botswana -- as I liked it too!

Montgomerie, the Alsatian German Shepherd is truly a member of a species of dogs very inteligent and caring. Montgomerie had his dog emotions -- and he found resources to support my own feelings too.

German Shepherds singing - He who sings is a good dog!

German Shepherds are known to be good companions -- reliable, good natured and faithful dogs. When an Alsatian has an extra talent, like singing, being a friend with him is even more satisfying! Some German Shepherds can sing and there is nothing that should stop us from giving our love to them. Anyone that had a German Shepherd would know how lovely these dogs are and would value their friendly nature.

Dog Montgomerie, was one of my friends -- I had his unconditional dog love in sad times - The unconditional dog love of a German Shepherd.

When Bill died suddenly of heart attack one morning, without warning signs of his condition, Montgomerie and I were left on our own to deal with the difficult and sad times of grieving. Not a dog but one of my best friends, Montgomerrie, a furry German Alsatian kept true to his nature of a German Shepherd of being a caring and loving dog.

Touching his textured fur was greatly comforting to me and the kowledge that we both share the same sorrow made me feel less lonely. I had my real best friends all right, but for fellow humans one is trying to put a brave face when one is very sad, as to protect them from one's low vibes. With Monty I felt free to cry and express myself in all those sad moments -- and I felt a bit relieved after every cry.

Montgomerie gave me his unconditional love in those sad times and I am still grateful for that emotional support..

I left Montgomerie behind to the freedom of a farm when I moved to South Africa. He is an Alsacian German Shepherd and must have his space to run. He got a good position on a farm, to help out with his skills another friend. He is living now still in Botswana, with my friend Simion and is free to roam and chase after the jackalass, sniffing the spurs of wild animals, protecting Simi's goats against the snakes and doing other dog jobs suitable for a good, inteligent, talented and smart Alsacian German Shepherd. Montgomerie has his other friends now, the cats and the chicken and the other dog, Ursu, on the farm. Montgomerie is a very happy dog today and he is greeting me with the same joy every time I am visiting him and my human friend Simi on the farm in Botswana..

It was nice when I had them both my daughter and Monty with me. They are now far, they have their own life. I miss them dearly .

Montgomerie is a happy dog now, living on a farm in Botswana, still a best friend in my memory! Do dogs love?

Sometimes, I wish I was him!

Dog Montgomerie was a left over puppy

Montgomery was Bill's pet. Bill got the dog as a puppy from friends who managed to gift away all its brothers and sisters. Montgomerie was the smallest in the litter and the owners kept him some more to beef him up before finding a foster parent.

The proud Scottish golfers like the names of other proud Scottish golfers - Dog Montgomerie was named after his famous namesake, Colin Montgomerie

the proud Scotsman
the proud Scotsman

Bill was a proud Scotsman that loved his golf, his rum and coke, his dog and the other great golf players. Montgomerie was an honoured name in his discussions at the 19th hole in Gaborone at the Golf Club, where I was allowed to go sometimes and have a round of drinks with the boys.

Monty's honoured namesake, Colin Stuart Montgomerie

Colin Stuart Montgomerie, OBE (born 23 June 1963) is a Scottish professional golfer, often referred to by one of his nicknames 'Monty'. He has had one of the finest careers in European Tour history, having won a record eight Order of Merit titles, including a streak of seven consecutively from 1993 to 1999, and 31 European tour victories, placing him fourth on the all time list. He is renowned also for his superb Ryder Cup performances. Montgomerie also has the dubious distinction of being one of the most accomplished players never to have won a major championship, after finishing runner-up on five occasions. Nor has he won an official tournament on the U.S. PGA Tour, unlike several of his main European rivals.

Nevertheless, Colin Stuart Montgomerie is one of the great golf palyers in the world. All Scotsmen are proud to be like him, Scottish that is, and play the golf as best they can.

Monty is always waiting for me with the love of a dog -- he might also feel that we are best friends!

When I visit the farm, Montgomery and I would go and make the round of the animals.

Dogs must learn -- like human. If you have a dog and cannot send it to school -- you'll have to home school it. Then you will have a best friend that will behave as one!

This is a painting on stretched canvas, 42 cmx 36 cm. It is a self portrait and a result of how an artist feels in a passiv agressive environment.

Well, for an artist there is always something to feel about. I miss Botswana after I have lived there for eight years. Fortunately I still have friends and a dog left in Botswana, all good reasons to visit as many times as I can. I found Botswana a perfect place to heal after wasting a great part of my life in the restrictive system of the Romanian Communist regime. My dog stories are just some of the beautiful memories I keep about life in Botswana

Sad update about my friends -- Simi and the dog

I have to make this sad update: my human friend, Simon, who was keeping Monty, died. He was found on the farm, collapsed on the grounds of his vegetable garden. Monty was taken by a good hearted lady; I could not bring him to where I am currently living over to another country. I am lonelier than ever. I am working on a new self portrait; in this one here I was still happy. The dog stories I can tell make me sad.

I have no friends left in Botswana,, except Mma Sechele.

What about your friends? Please leave links to your pet lens so I can visit.

Such a nice lens in regard to human feelings and connection with their silent friends... so treasured

I had a wonderful dog years ago, so dearest to me... sometimes made me believe that our liaison was more tied, sincere and honest that the one with humans... sounds funny to say that we could understand each other without talking, but the little one knew always when to be around and offer support...

A human being may not understand or care, but a dog does!

Thanks for sharing Monty. I have a large dog too and he has been a wonderful comfort while my husband battles cancer.
