The Littlest Pig

Updated on April 7, 2016

Strange and Cute

I like strange and unusual animals, mostly because I'm allergic to normals pets like cats, bunnies and long haired bogs. Though I don't own any pets myself, because they might fight with my families' pets. They have two crazy dogs and a yapping puppy I was somehow roped into looking after until she is old enough to stay with the other two..

I have a list of favorite animals. The list starts out pretty simple with Pugs, a small dog with a crinkled face. I also love fainting goats, because they are just so cool. Mexican walking fish, they're not really fishes. Hairless cats and other hairless animals that are just so ugly they're cute. But my latest addition to my list is far the cutest farm animal. The Miniature, Micro or sometimes called Teacup Pigs. These Pigs can weigh as little as 20 pounds fully grown and act like little hyper sweet dogs when they are babies.

All the art here is mine and I added youtube videos at the end of this to show you what they really look like and how small they are.

Like Pigs?

If you love pigs. Pigs are smart and social creatures, but a regular farm pig would make a terrible pet, unless you live on a farm. They can reach in excess of 1500 pounds. That is how big the pig from the book The Good Pig got. One fix for this is to buy a Miniature or a Micro pig (not to be confused with Potbellied pigs, that get a lot bigger than people think, 200 pounds) these pigs are bred not to get any bigger than 25 to 90 pounds and are so very cute. Be careful of what breed of mini-pig you are buying, some will get bigger than others.

Type of Pigs

Vietnamese Potbellied Pigs have an average height of 14 inches and their average weigh about 50 pounds.

Juliani or Painted Miniature Pig only averages 15-50 pounds. They have a gentle disposition and love to play with dog toys.

African Pygmy or Guinea Hog, these mini pigs weigh around 20-40 pounds and reach an average height of 14 to 22 inches.

Yucatan (Mexican Hairless) Pig - they come in big and small types. The larger can run in upwards of 200 pounds, while the smaller will only grows from 50-100 pounds.

Ossabaw Island Pig averages 15-40 inches and can weigh in at 25-90 pounds. They can live up to 25 years so do not pick this pig unless you'd like a long term animal.

Should I or Shouldn't I?

Miniature pigs make good pets because like cats they can be trained to use a litter box. Like Puppies they love attention and want to be around their owners and will follow you everywhere.

There are only a few reasons I would reconsider getting one of this animals. They are pretty pricey and I would have to get used to the noises that all pigs make, but at the same time they are some of the cutest and most loveing animals.

Have never considered owning a pig, not even the littlest pig. I'm a dog lover but I have to say your lens was very educational! I can see how pigs this small could make wonderful pets for the elderly and people with small quarters. Also "liked" your lens!

I'm a big fan of pigs they are very clever and sweet. Not sure if they are available where you live but there is another small breed called the Kune Kune pig. It isn't quite as tiny as the micro pigs but small enough to handle. In fact, I think the Kune Kune is one of the pigs that was used to help breed the micro pigs.

I also like pugs and fainting goats. I grew up with relatives who raised pigs, so I have had lots of pig moments. I like the piglets best.
