My Cranky Companion
Vladimir is a persnickety cat.
He's also fussy, finicky and fastidious. I don't know why I put up with him.
He arrived, unannounced, at my back door in September, 1993, and decided to stay.
I'm glad he did, we suit each other well.
Don't call him late for dinner
Apart from being a demanding drain on my finances, my furniture and my time, Vladi is generally a perfect companion.
Wherever I am, he's there. Observing me from his kitchen chair as I prepare a meal, lounging on my desk with one eye upon the flickering monitor, snoozing under my patio chair or curled up next to me as I sleep.
He's a quiet cat, and doesn't make much fuss, but he likes his dinner to be on time.
In his younger days
Once upon a time Vladi was a handsome cat. He was black and sleek and shining. Incredibly elegant, a long cat, lean and muscled with longer legs than you would expect. He was definitely closely connected to an Oriental Shorthair family.
Whatever happened to bring him to my door remains a mystery, but I suspect a fine blue-blooded breeding queen was compromised by a common old alley cat.
Vladi's good looks are a thing of the past. The lustrous black coat is thinner with an erratic spattering of silver hairs, his back is stooped, his voice weaker and he's never fully recovered from a snake bite.
Ive become more fond of him as he grows older, as both of us grow older. Strangely, he seems fonder of me too.
A day in the life of Vladimir
Vladimir has arthritis
When Vladi started 'slowing down' , I thought it was old age catching up but it was actually arthritis. It took blood testing and radiography to confirm that.
He gets special attention of course. His bed must be sheepskin and the heat pads must be strategically placed. A diet high in fish oil is called for and he takes a daily dose of glucosamine. Just like me.
As well as being soothing to older pets, the heat mat is great for nursing females and animals recovering from illness or injury.
The heat pad must be in a comfy bed
A bed ergonomically designed for cats
Finally, the first piece of furniture bed specifically designed for cats.
The spherical shape of this elegant bed ergonomically contours the natural curled sleeping position of the cat; along with the overfilled puffy cushion it provides a comforting resting and sleeping area for any feline. Luxurious golden silky ribbon like striped cushion, trendy chocolate finely aged looking stain and the spherically arranged bamboo strips complements one another making this bed a wonderful piece of furniture.
Bed is made of environmental friendly bamboo and wood; Cushion cover is made of cotton/polyester blend, with 100% polyester filling; machine washable.
Vladi is a Literate Cat
He loves to write! Even when all has to say is a complaint, lamentably this is often, you can't keep him from blogging about it.
He makes lenses too, and I'm proud to say that he is the first Giant 100 Squid Cat in the history of Squidoo!
