Free Hat Patterns for the Knifty Knitter Loom

Updated on February 8, 2018

I love to share my favorite patterns on the web for people out there who like making things as much as I do!

Free Hat Patterns for the Knifty Knitter Loom

Round Knifty Knitter looms are perfect for knitting hats. As a general guide, use the 11 inch loom for large adult hats, the 9 inch loom for small adult and children's hats, and the 7 inch loom for baby hats, or the 5 inch blue loom for a doll or preemie hat. We also have free hat patterns for the Knifty Knitter hat loom, which is a specialty loom sold separately from the round loom set.

If you've made the hat from your Knifty Knitter instructions, you're probably ready to branch out and try some new patterns. You've come to the right place. Below are lots of hat patterns here for the round looms that you will enjoy making. Browse the pictures below and choose your next knitted hat creation. So many Knifty Knitter hat patterns all in one place!

Step 1: Wrap the yarn around the anchor peg.

Step 2: Loosely wrap each peg on the loom, by wrapping a cursive "e" around each peg.

Step 3: Slide the wrapped yarn to the bottom of each peg.

Step 4: Wrap each peg a second time.

Step 5: Knit by lifting the bottom loop of yarn up and over the loop above it and off the peg. Use the hook that came with the looms to do this.

Step 6: Knit approximately 35 rows. (The number of rows is determined by the height of the hat you desire.)

Step 7: Cut the working yarn 2 feet long. Run the end of the yarn through a yarn needle and sew through each loop on the peg to remove the knit from the hat. Pull this tight to cinch the top of the hat closed.

Green Round Loom Hat with Vertical Stripes

This hat is knitted by e wrapping all the odd pegs in one color and the even pegs in another color. The alternating colors make vertical stripes on the hat. Pair it with the vertical striped scarf. The hat is quick and easy to knit and requires knowledge of the e wrap and purl stitches.

What You Need:

Knifty Knitter Round Loom and Hook

I found this cupcake hat pattern at the "This Mama Knits Blog." It is the perfect size for a young girl. The knit and purl stitches are used on the green round loom. for Kids and Adults

This basic brim hat is knitted from brim to top. The hat in the photo was knitted using the green Knifty Knitter round loom, A.K.A. the large round loom. Two strands of Red Heart Super Saver yarn were held together as one yarn. The yarn color is fleck. This pattern makes a nice thick hat and is simple to make for the beginner. The yarn color can be changed after the brim to add a little color variety, or dress it up with a pom pom on top.

Skill Level: Easy

You will need:

*Knifty Knitter Green Round Loom (for kids and small adults) or Yellow Round Loom (for Large adults)

*Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in "Fleck" or other color of choice

Skill Level: Medium

You will need:

*a crochet hook

*a skein of bulky yarn (creates heavier knit) OR lightweight yarn (creates ribs with holes)

Knifty Knitter Elmo Hat

Knifty Knitter Elmo Hat

Here is a cute earflap hat made on the red or green round loom. The one seen in the photo is made on the red loom and I would recommend it for a child 18 months and under. If the child is older than 18 months, use the green loom. It's made with Red Heart brand yarn in the color red and fun fur yarn also in the color red. There is a video in the instructions explaining how to make a basic earflap hat. There are also instructions for how to add the face to make the hat look like Elmo!

This Santa hat is done on the Knifty Knitter red round loom (medium). It's the perfect size for a baby or small child. To make a Santa hat for an older child, use the green loom instead. You will need:

Worsted weight red yarn (Red Heart)

"Fuzzy" white yarn and

Fun fur white yarn (optional)

Blue Round Loom

This is the smallest loom in the round loom set. It measures 5 inches across. Although it is sometimes suggested that this loom is for baby hats, it would have to be a very small preemie baby. The hats I've made using this loom fit dolls, but would not fit most newborns. I use this loom for knitting socks and gloves.

Knifty Knitter Hat Loom - The Knifty Knitter Hat Loom from Amazon.com

The hat loom is a specialty loom made by Provo Craft. You will not find it as part of a set. It's only sold individually. It has 48 pegs and measures 10 1/4 inches wide. The pegs on this loom are placed slightly closer, to make a denser weave.

I’m looking for a pattern to make the boysenberry pie hat that I saw being sold by a vendor at the boysenberry festival at Knott’s Berry Farm. It’s made with the kniffty knitter loom. A photo of it is on Etsy Boysenberry pie hat by Miss Doolittle.

I love how quickly loom hats knit up! I've only made one so far, but it sure was rewarding to get it the size I wanted, pull the yarn through and presto! done! No taking forever to reduce stitches, knit a row between, and keep track of how many stitches to knit before knitting two together. I need to pick up a bigger loom though. The one I got only makes baby hats.

I don't think these links work anymore. I tried to access the patterns but it took me to a Cricut site and even though I looked around for the Knifty Knitter stuff, I didn't find it. Do you know if they have changed their website? If so, do you know where I could get some of the patterns for the yellow and green looms (kids hats like the bead one)? Thanks.

@anonymous: The 22 inch loom is blue. They have them at amazon, just search for "Knifty Knitter 22 inch long loom blue." Soon, you may only be able to buy the looms as a set.

      @anonymous: Kim,

Yes, you cut and tie a square knot between the two colors of yarn to attach them. If you wish to leave a long tail and weave it in you can. I prefer to keep the tails smaller and sew them with thread.
