5 Ideas for Upcycling Old Clothes

Updated on May 31, 2014

Autumn Leaf Candle

This is such a simple idea for up-cycling old jars into stunning candle decorations and would make really good table centre-pieces.

Cut up an old sleeve and place over a mason jar - then simply take a slim strip of the sleeve and wrap it round the jar and sleeve and place a leaf under it.

Add scented tea lights to get that full Autumn effect!

Check out this great page for loads more upcycled clothing ideas.

Elephant Sock Puppet

This adorable elephant sock puppet was made using the sleeve of an old woolen sweater - and a thick knee length grey sock. The ears and tusks were made from left over felt from another project.

The eyes came from an old cardigan and for extra safety - especially for young children - they can be embroidered on.

Try to use bright coloured sleeves as this will really stimulate childrens imaginations.

Learn How To Upcycle The Easy Way

Play-donuts from children's socks

This is a really fun idea for children to make - with a little parental supervision.

You want to start off by cutting the toes from the socks, then simply roll the sock into itself. Then for the really fun bit create some "icing" from felt.

Using a glue gun attach the icing to the top of the rolled up sock.

Sock Snowman

This is a really quick and cheap idea for creating decorations for Christmas and the holiday season and the best thing is you should have most of the materials you need lying around the house.

Some of the supplies you'll need are: white socks, orange & black felt, black poms and a good fabric scissors.

DIY Sock Hobby Horses

Kids will love these inexpensive hobby horses sure to spark any little one's imagination. Now you have a use for that old sweater your granny knitted all those years ago.

Begin by making a horse head shape on a piece of card. This will serve as your structure. Using filling such as that for a cushion, glue around the card.

Further materials you will need include: heavy woolen socks, some big buttons, filler and a wooden rod.
