Animator Run Wrake uses illustrations from children’s reading books in this disturbing story of two children who find a strange idol inside a rabbit and embark on an utterly twisted get-rich-quick scheme.
Blu is an animator and graffiti artist who uses the streets and buildings of cities around the world as canvases for his surreal and imaginative stop animations. They are remarkable both for their creativity and the painstaking hours of painting and repainting on walls and pavements needed to make them.
David Firth’s fat-pie.com channel on youtube is full of dark and weird animations. His most famous creation is Salad Fingers, a skinny green-faced being who lives in a shack in a dystopian world with his imaginary friends. Not for the faint hearted.
Kseniya Simonova - Sand Animation
Ukrainian artist Ksenia Simonova took the TV show Ukraine’s Got Talent by storm with her live sand animation. Performing with a screen covered in sand to a soundtrack Ksenya traces pictures that blend into one another creating dramatic stories. Get a box of tissues ready for this bittersweet love story.
This Way Up
A short, fun anime for Halloween. This computer animation follows a couple of hapless undertakers who are plagued with a series of misadventures whilst performing their solemn duty.
There’s a touch of David Lynch about this slightly whacky horror. A play dough animation in which strange creatures with long arms and big noses work in a factory making strange creatures with long arms and big noses.
Love Song (With Aneurysm) - Aidan Smith (music video)
Snakes, pianos and typewriters are among the elements in this entertaining low budget music video which combines various styles of animation and live action footage. It was made by Russell Weekes of the ‘Lie-ins and Tigers’ collective.
