Teen Birthday Gift - hand book journal co.

Updated on February 4, 2017

The Visual Journal by hand book journal co.

Affordable art journals are available online. The Global Art Materials art journal, officially under TM, hand book journal co. can be a good choice for an artist gift. A visual journal is the artist's everyday diary.

Looking for this item at the closest Blick art store, 23 miles from my house, I learned it is not stocked in the store. Sometimes it is just easier to order online.

First look at these books and what is there not to like? Luscious colors, cloth hand bound cover and heavy weight buff hued paper. Compare the prices of other artist journals online.

I have to admit to a secret, though. I am only an artist in my head. I have bought a couple of blank books for a little practice sketching, and for doodling and writing. If I knew a young artist, a fashion sketcher, what teenager isn't, or other busy art lover, this would be a gift for them: the hand book journal co. art sketch book.

Here is a complete review and pictures of the journal I own.

Drawing in a Cheap Blank Book

Here is a sketch book started some years ago. Quality of paper is poor. This is a blank journal found for less than $5.00 dollars. It is more suitable for writing.

For the sketcher that likes to draw art on site. Texture, color and paper used makes all the difference for the budding artist. Notice the nicely rounded corners.

A Word About Choices

When choosing a type of journal keep in mind what your artist likes to focus on. Watercolor books have thicker paper than the items marked Drawing.

Take note from the video how nicely the journal opens and allows for double page water coloring.

If your young or beginning artist is going to draw using a blank book similar to mine, photographed here, may be the gift to give.

Why the Professional Journal?

There are plenty of blank books at even better prices but for the lover of pencil stretching, buff paper is an artist's preference. Texture will make the difference when lead is applied to the paper surface.

The bindings are made for flat page opening and a handy pocket allows for tucking in important notes.

As the picture shows each has a closure band and orange ribbon page marker.

Global Arts Materials

The journals are available directly from the company on Amazon.com. The full compliment of sizes and colors are ready for ordering your gifting needs coming in the near future.

I ordered a green journal from Amazon. One project that has been sitting on the wayside can be started when it arrives.

More pictures and the final assessment of this item coming when I fill the pages.

Landscape sizes are 3 1/2 X 5 1/2 pocket size and the bigger 5 1/2 and 8 1/4.

Cloth Not Leather

Leather journals are very prevalent but cotton cloth may be the preference for the budding vegan or those that avoid things made from animal products.

This is a useful hub. I have an art journal in progress, but the brand that you've described sounds much better than mine. I love your butterfly drawing!

When I was a kid and even through my teens, I used to do a lot of sketching and drawing. Alas, with the advent of marriage, a family, TV, and the internet, I've never gone back to it. Now I have shaky hands, and I can imagine what any drawing I did would look like now. But I loved reading about it. Wish we'd had these nice books when I was young.

Yes I can see how the right sort of paper is required depending on the artistic technique adopted.

My niece is 19 and very artistic. She loves to draw. I wonder if she would like one of these. Thanks for the suggestion!

Both my kids love these kids of journals. My boy for sketching his tanks and planes and my girl for recording her secret diary.

Last Christmas I purchased my granddaughter How to Draw books and she loved them. Now I visit and she has her drawings taped throughout the walls of the house.

Journals are irresistible to me, no matter what the purpose. It would be fun to have one of these for sketchers especially. The heavier paper is perfect for their work. Lots of variety too.
