Barbie Round Pillow (Free Crochet Pattern)

Having been pretty occupied with the HubPages Apprenticeship Program, I haven't been able to crochet as much as usual. Since I haven't had the time to come up with a new design for Barbie Doll Crochet Clothes, I thought I'd work on Barbie's house instead and come up with a design to decorate her house.

This is actually a stitch pattern I liked in another project I just made and decided to use it to make a simple round pillow. The size made here is made to fit Barbie's head. You can either use it on Barbie's bed or sofa to decorate her house.

This hub is a free pattern on how to make a Round Pillow for Barbie. You can make several of these in different colors to suit your style.

Materials and Gauge

  • Size 10 mercerized crochet cotton thread
  • No. 1 steel hook
  • Fiberfill (or cotton or any stuffing you prefer) to stuff the pillow
  • Gauge is not important for this project. A smaller pillow can still be used as accent pieces on the bed or sofa.

Pattern

Note: dc2tog = dc the next 2 sts together

Round 1: In a magic circle, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring, join. (12 dc)

Note: From this point, each stitch will be made in between the posts of stitches, not in the stitch from the previous row.

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, (2 dc in each st) around, join. (24 dc)

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next st, (2 dc in next st, dc in next st) around, join. (36 dc)

Round 4: Ch 3, dc in each st around, join. (36 dc)

Round 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 5 sts, (2 dc in next st, dc in the next 5 sts) around, join. (42 dc)

Round 6-7: Repeat Round 4. (42 dc)

Note: You can add more rows of Round 4 if you want the pillow to be thicker.

Round 8: Ch 3, dc in the next 4 sts, dc2tog, (dc in the next 5 sts, dc2tog) around, join. (36)

Round 9: Repeat Round 4. (36 dc)

Round 10: Ch 3, dc2tog, (dc in next st, dc2tog) around, join. (24 dc)

Stuff firmly.

Round 11: Ch 3, dc2tog around, join. (12 dc)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew the pillow close. Weave in the tail in the stitches of the last row to sew it close.

Variations

If you know the basics of working in the round and when to increase stitches, throw those notions away when creating a pillow. Experiment on the increases but make sure the rows are symmetrical so it can still close at the end of the round. For the pattern above, the rows are symmetrical because it is 12-24-36-42-42-42-36-24-12.

You can also try different shapes or patterns. This is a very forgiving design because, really, you can make any pillow shape you want. Whether as bed pillow or just an accent pillow, you can fill the entire doll house with any shaped pillow you create.

For the pillow that Ashlynn Ella is holding, I used a 12-24-24-36-36-24-24-12 pattern to end up with a smaller throw pillow. It will not work as a pillow for the doll (since her head is bigger than Barbie's), but it is the perfect size for an accent pillow.
