Barbie Strapless Bodysuit (Free Crochet Pattern)

Whenever I make Barbie clothes, I always prefer making skirts over tops. Because I have had to adapt patterns from the vintage dolls which are a bit shorter than the modern ones, I find myself making basic strapless tops so the whole outfit will not be wasted.

Because of this, whenever I think up of new designs for Barbie, I keep finding myself stumped on what to do for the top. Due to my recent interest in finding skirts for myself, I thought why not apply it to Barbie. So for this hub, I will be sharing the pattern for a basic white bodysuit which can be used as a swimsuit/underwear or as a top.

It utilizes the Barbie Panties I designed a while ago and extends it to include a corset top. So to wear it on Barbie, you slip on the panties and then close the back of the corset by using snaps or velcro.

As usual, this design is made for the Barbie Basics doll (or the Model Muse). For more information on what your doll's body type is, check out Crocheting for Barbies.

What is a Bodysuit?

A bodysuit is a one-piece form-fitting garment that covers the torso and the crotch. While it usually has snaps at the crotch, I thought that for Barbie, her panties would be slipped on and the top will be closed via snaps or velcro.

I personally find this look to be very versatile for Barbie as she can use it to as a top, a swimsuit, or underwear. Just note that if you do decide to try out this look for Barbie, anything you want to put over it must be made just a bit larger so it will still close at the back. Unlike the skin-hugging bodysuit for people, this bodysuit is as thick as a normal crochet garment for Barbie. Plus, if you use velcro (which I did in the photo above), the back will be much thicker than if you use sew-on snaps. From experience, this is usually overlooked in designs available and consider yourself warned that anything you make over this should be slightly bigger than usual.

Wow this Barbie Doll swim suit looks fantastic. I myself do not knit but my sister knits and crochets all sorts of Barbie Doll clothes too. I will be passing on this article to her. She will be delighted to get a new pattern.

She sells them at crafts fairs and the dolls are very popular. I will be writing a hub on her designs soon too.
