My sister-in-law got me started on crocheting clothes for dolls. She sells dolls to Barbie collectors here in the Philippines and thought it would be a good idea to add clothes to her line. I recently saw pictures of the Barbie Silkstone dolls she got that sold out fast and thought it would be nice to make clothes for the more expensive Barbie. While I was not willing to shell out more money for yet another doll, she gave me the dress form you see on the photo above that has a Silkstone body mold.

Since it is just a dress form, this dress was made to be worn from the head down. When I make clothes for Barbie, I prefer making clothes that can be worn from the feet up to prevent damaging the hair. If you do own a doll, you should be able to put it on from the feet up, since the shoulders are the bulkiest section of the Silkstone Barbie and not the hips.

This hub is a free crochet pattern for a Barbie Strapless Layered Dress. It is made to fit a Silkstone Barbie, instead of the regular Model Muse body that I use. For more information on the different body types of Barbie, please visit Crochet Clothes for Your Barbie Doll.

Skirt:

Starting from the waist down:

Row 1: Working on the opposite side of the starting ch, sc in the first 3 ch, (inc in the next ch, sc in the next 3 ch) until the last 3 ch, inc in the next ch, sc in the last 2 ch, turn. (32)

Row 4: Repeat Row 2. (36)

First Layer of Skirt:

Row 5: Working in BL only, ch 2 (does not count as dc), shell in the first sc, (sk 2 sc, shell in the next sc) across, sk the last 2 sc (this will serve as tabs for the back to make it look neat), join with a sl st in the first dc of the first shell, turn. (12 shells)

Row 6: Sl st to the first ch-2 sp, ch 2, shell in each ch-2 sp around, join, turn. (12 shells)

Row 7: Sl st to the first ch-2 sp, ch 2, full shell in each ch-2 sp around, join. (12 full shells)

Fasten off.

At this point, you have some free front loops from Row 4. Fold down your First Layer and working on the same side as you worked your Row 5, continue following the pattern. You will need to do this for every succeeding Layer to get the bulk out of the way while working on the next Layer.

Hi, Marion. The instruction "Repeat Row 2" just means you need to work sc in each sc across. The new number for the stitches is written after the Row, so for Rows 4-6, it says 30 stitches.
