Buy online equipment for wood sculpting

Updated on February 3, 2012

This hobby requires lots of supplies

In order to start the fun activity of wood sculpting, you need to have a lot of supplies handy. But you don't want to have to get up and drive to the store everytime you need something! If you were wondering where to get sandpaper, wood glue, wood, and orbit grinder, and a jig saw, then you have come to the right place!! I have organized all the different sections for different supplies you might need as you aspire to become a practiced wood sculptor. And all it takes it the click of a button!! You don't have to travel anywhere!

And lucky for you, I have written a little article on how to do wood sculpting, so if you want to learn then just check it out. You don't have to start immediately, but just see what it's all about. Then you can save this idea for a rainy day when you don't have anything to do. If anything, it is just cool to know how it works and the whole process behind it. It's actually really interesting!! If you want to check it out then just click on the link below!!

Wood buying

When buying the plywood for your piece, you need to go to the store for this one. You can buy some good birchwood online, but it really helps when you can actually see what your materials are before you actually buy them. It is especially important with wood because it is so variable. Since you are making an aestically pleasing piece, you want to hand pick good quality wood. I am not saying that the online wood is bad, just that it is more efficient to buy it at a home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe's.

The type of wood that you buy completely depends on your taste and how you want it to look. The key to knowing what it is going to look like when you are completely finished it to look at the side of the plywood. There should be three to five different layers (depending on the thickness of it) of different colors of wood. Put a little bit of water on the side of it and rub it in. The resultant color is what your entire piece will look like on the outside. It's hard to imagine, but at least you can get an idea. This is the reason why going to a store would be the best bet when buying wood.

You should also know that when you are buying your wood, you should make sure to buy enough wood to complete the whole project. This is because you can never know if the stores will run out of the wood you are using. This would be bad because it is very noticable when one section of your wood sculpture is made from different wood than the other parts.

Buy enough, but don't overdue it. And don't get picky with your wood after you have bought it. If you have a big base piece cut out, then use as much of the scraps from it as you can so that you don't waste any of it. Be efficient with your wood cutting. For example, I used around 5 pieces of plywood to finish a tornado that had the dimensions 40x38x38. You will be surprised at how much you can salvage from just one to three pieces of plywood.

You might want to go to a store just because the equipment is way more expensive than the other supplies. And it might be necessary to actually talk to someone about the different features of the somewhat expensive piece of equipment that you are going to buy. It sometimes makes the buyer feel better. But if you know mostly how to operate the following equipment, then go ahead and buy one below because they are way better deals than you will get in the store!!

Just by buying online, you are saving a ton of money! There are various reasons for this, but the main one is that of the ease of it. It is much cheaper for the buyer for the product to be sent directly to their house rather than the store. With all that in mind, get one of these extremely cheap pieces of equipment. Without them, you will have a hard time becoming a wood sculptor. Buying onlne is so easy!!

Last but not Least
