Video editing | Capturing Thunder & Lightning at Night

Updated on February 25, 2013

Before - It took mutilple attempts

Cool photos takes time

In order to capture thunder as photo images, it takes extreme accuracy, and the one I caught last night was simply a stroke of luck. I truly tried multiple times before I captured this cool image, and it was the very first I ever managed to get lucky with. I may have been a split second shy of capturing the awesome thunder here in the image to the right.

After - I think I got lucky here

Taking that Quick Photo

Taking quick instant photo's, and sudden snap shots of thunder is something in itself that has been very challenging, because first off if its raining outside, well good luck on losing that precious digital camera to the rain waters. I'm not sure if they have waterproof digital cameras, and I think I'll search on google for them, if they exist at all, but without such a thing it just isn't feasible to do, unless you live in an area that is quite spacious, and open to the sky, unlike many parts of a big city, and depending on your specific location.

Larger view of that cool thunder capture I caught, I Love it!

Patience is the key to good photography besides experience

I decided to provide a much closer view of that cool photo I managed to capture that night, and if you never quit at trying to take such cool pictures, you also may have the chance to do such a thing.

This definitely takes a great deal of patience, luck, and timing as well, because I had to stand there and pretty much wait till the sky, and clouds opened up, it would light up about every other minute, or so and then I got lucky.

Next up capturing images of the wilderness, if I can get to it

I would love to make it to a rain forest some day, to capture some amazing images of it all, and once upon a time I been to one in Puerto Rico, it was known as Mount Yunque, and it was marvelous there.

What type of video camera did I use?

I own a HD Toshiba Camileo x400 23x's zoom camcorder, and its extremely accurate at capturing video footage, and this was a very good buy me and my wife made this spring of 2012. It allows you to simultaneously capture photo's while recording film, and its a digital camera as well, high powered stuff!

This is my goal to achieve with capturing lightning & thunder

Photo editing images

Some folks may utilize a photo editing tool to transform their images into some truly amazing colorful displays, and I'm pretty sure by the looks of that cool purplish background up there in that cool image up above, that such a thing was done on it. They must have used Photoshop, which you can use the online version for free, if you wish to give it a try without purchasing the software, but of course you will need to create a user account there to utilize it.

I would love to capture such an amazing photo as that one there, and potentially convert it into a spectacular display of artistry, and even though many professional photographers may prefer to only utilize unedited 100% original images. I'm still an amateur and looking to explore all of my options available, before deciding to make anything a permanent technique or approach to taking photo's, or that of editing my image captures.

Thank you intriguewriter, I love your motivation and determination to succeed in whatever you put your mind to, you have drive, and a positive outlook on life, and I feel more people need to give it a try to be all that they can be as well.

Keep up your highly motivated ways and who knows what it will do for you in the long run, I know I myself will not be stopping neither, its all systems go, and full steam ahead.

Thanks for helping to empower folks here on hubpages, even if it may end up only being me, LOL. Its all good, because when its all said and done, we both may end up somewhere on the top of it all, and may the lord guide us both in the right directions if that were to some day come true.

Cheers to powerful video hubbing, as well as Youtube challenges.

Great! I am glad to see you are going well. I had computer issues too...and had no laptop for a couple of days which was why I ended up doing a couple of videos with this crap cam but hey, I got something done. I have had trouble uploading vids via hubpages though even with my mac and with high speed internet. So, I have had to resort to uploading them on Youtube and then just putting them up here. I am going to be doing a youtube challenge too 30 vids in 30 days. There is lady on there who is a marketing expert who recommended 30 vids in 30 days and I did not even know of her until I started doing the videos lol. She says it is a great way to kickstart a marketing campaign for a website or for your writing or anything else. I am obviously doing it as a challenge for myself. However, I am seeing the potential in using it to promote my hubs through youtube, promote my business and my sites. I hope to hear from you again soon! And keep up the great work! I hope we can do another challenge and get more people on board this time with it. I am going to contact hubpages actually and ask them to get more involved with it to encourage more people to get on board. I am also promoting challenges like this on YouTube to help people to just put themselves out there and work hard. Take care

Hey Intriguewriter, my video hub challenge isn't going so well at the moment, one of my laptops crashed recently that I was able to render all the video editing, and uploads, and so its slowed me down a great deal, but I still will try my best to play catch up.

Its all good though, I will try my best to complete it before the 30 days is up, and my creativity is something I will depend on to make it happen.

Thanks for showing up here, and for show the concern, you are very supportive indeed.

I have a few more to put up tonight though! I love your video hubs, I have been trying to find the time to come by and look at all of them! So busy though time does not always allow. I love your work! Keep it up and please please keep in touch! Get at me when you can! Thanks for the cool hub! Loved it!
