Tired Profile Picture? Cartoon Portrait Avatars are Hot!
Need a new Profile Icon? Try a Cartoon Portrait Avatar. Realisitic NOT, but Fun
This is my avatar history and review of cartoon portrait generator websites, and online avatar makers. The following shows my reviews and results. I've also included a listing of avatar makers, and profile or photo generators, that I have yet to test.
--->Me? Not exactly, but it does show some similar characteristics. This is a the last poll winner, but dressed and decorated for the season. This face has won the last 14 polls, so it's safe to say it's a keeper. If it wins again, I'll be using a Halloween-themed look.
I've had quite a few online profile icons, also known as modern Avatars, over the years. I have chosen from cartoons, funny characters, made banners, and I even spotlighted specific merchandise items I have on sale. With the addition of the numerous interactive Cartoon picture creators, there is no limit to the creative possibilities to capture a fun representation of yourself.
I would also like to ask for you help keeping me out of my avatar rut since I tend to keep one for years... Won't you vote for your choice of which cartoon avatar you think I should use for my next face here on HubPages and other online communities?
Enjoy and thanks for your assistance.
Have you thought about trying a Cartoon Profile Avatar?
The newest craze seems to be the Cartoon-Style Portrait Avatar.
I tried a few of them. Lots of options and styles.
Picking pre-made parts to make a whole never quite works out the way you think it will. My results below confirmed that, oh, I would say, without question. You'll see what I mean soon.
But it's fun, so give it a shot and see what you can come up with. It may not look exactly like you, but hey, that's half the fun and adds to the mystery of an anonymous avatar. (Who the heck is that person behind the pink furry monster?).
My Previous Avatars: No resemblence at all, but there is a reason...
An emblem for a Yamaha Roadstar(166)
A little backstory here...
Originally My husband and I created this name on eBay to buy and sell car & motorcycle parts.
Well... he still buys car parts and accessories. I buy, but mainly sell, other vintage to new merchandise. The Roadstar166 name, since it's inception, has built up over 100 positive feedback ratings in eBay and iOffer. I understand it's now a lot harder to sell or even buy with a 0 rating than it was when we started. I hate the thought of giving up our great reputation just to change the name.
Auto part sales?
Not yet, anyway, but if I could get him to part with the extra's taking possession over the garage...
invading the basement...
staking claim in the spare bedroom...
and OMG!....
creeping into our bedroom!
These early Avatars are a little bit closer to the real me...
but without showing any of my facial features
This was another iOffer avatar for my Roadstar166 iOffer store. -->
Yeah, I know. It's just "scratching" the surface of the real me, but I am blonde and do exist on coffee while I'm online
Animated to jitter something fierce...
Should I say VERY Appropriate?
My original avatar, the Flame...
was in reference to my name here, other places, and more importantly my crafting obsession. I make soy candles. Yeah I know..."Well, that's obvious". But that is my "brand" so I've stuck with it online up until my last voting results . I am updating my avatar here often, so I need your help to help stay out of my usual keep it for years avatar-rut since my name should take care of the "branding", but I'll touch more on that late
About that Avatar Rut I mentioned earlier...
I have created a few new avatars using the sites shown below. I beg you for your help further below. So please Vote today!
About that Avatar-Rut. I do believe it is a real place. I swear I do. I have seen helpless people trapped there for YEARS. Are you? Maybe someone you know or have seen under that dusty and faded Avatar? Now is the time to freshen up that tired old avatar, so read on for the CURE. Don't forget to tell your friends that here is THE remedy. They may be relieved that someone noticed their malaise and took pity on them. :D

This one I made just for kicks. I love contradiction.
Angel landing in He... um, Heck.
Serene gone Crazy.
Laughing in dire straits. Which is worse? Clothing Attire or Attained Location? hhhmm.
Downunder not meaning Australia, but He... , well, I still can't say it... Hel....HADES.
Want Realistic? Portrait Illustration Maker
This one didn't seem to have the best quality/size,... although the end result is quite attractive.
I can say that, can't I? It's not really me, right?
Or, is it?
Want Anime-style? more Portrait Illustration Maker
Now for a little more cartoonish...
but just somehow not quite as attractive.
Then again...

Now this looks EXACTLY like ME!
Well... maybe. :D
This one does require a nick name, your birthday, and your email address since it is emailed to you. Possibility of spam? Between you and me I fluff all that info beyond the email address since I figure it's none of their business, but I have yet to receive any spam.. :)
Since I've been voted into keeping this face for quite a while, to keep out of that rut I spoke of earlier, I found that I'm playing with...
My Many Faces of Manga - Change your Outfit, the Season, or the Holidays
Want more than just an Avatar? Zwinky
Very popular with many. Can be used as an avatar by myspace, facebook and other online and gaming communities. Also can be used to play dress up.
Bonuses included are Smiley Central, Cursor Mania, Popular Screensavers, and the the MyWebSearch® search box and Search Assistant.
I have chosen not to try it as MyWebSearch Toolbar is installed prior to creating a Zwinky. It may just be my paranoia talking, but I have had past issues with this toolbar and a file is automatically removed by Firefox 1.5.0.2 and later releases. Since I use Firefox as my primary browser, I'd rather not take a chance on this application, but I feel it is my mission not to make an uninformed judgment, but to inform others of possible options.
Read the End User License Agreement prior to creating your Zwinky, and if you can accept the terms, then by all means, do proceed.
Easy and fun to create...
You can register if you like to save your Simpson Avatars and even create a DVD case with your Simpson self ~or~ Save by clicking on down arrow icon, then selecting jpg file. Saves to download file. I saved to my Pictures file for easy access. I also chose to create just a headshot by using Print Screen, opening in MS paint and cropping.
Doppelme, please
Really cute cartoon-style.
Created easily by using basic choices. More is available if you register.
Wants you to register to save, but Right Click and Save does work for this one.
Lloyd's TSB Me
OK, it's a Bank., but they are cute, Share on FaceBook, Twitter, bookmarking, blogs and more.
You can also submit your likeness creation for a future Ad campaign. :D
The only downloads available are for sharing on social sites, or you can save by registering your email address and Lloyd's will send you a link to edit your character further. but I liked my "Me" so much that I took a screen shot (print screen) and cropped it in MS Windows Paint. I chose to use the whole body with character name, but very well could have cropped it to appear as just a head shot, too.
Oh... I didn't find this. They found me and wrote me a note here on this article.
Wow, I feel like a star. :D
Mii, Oui! ...or Wii.
Create your own "Mii", the avatars characteristic of the Nintendo Wii.
Simplistic, but maybe the popularity of Wii has given this avatar maker a boost.
Several options to save, but I just used Export to save as an avatar.
I still use this Wii Mii avatar, but just for bowling, golfing and other Wii games.
For a more profession avatar... SitePal
I probably won't be using this since it's fee-based and starts at $9.95 to get this avatar on trial, but it looks good if you have the need and resources.

Very fun and interesting lens
Great info, I want to create me one
This is a fantastic lens. I particularly enjoyed with Wii Mii avatar.
Great info I found here. Always wanted to know how cartoon avatars are made. I was about to search for the info on google but then I said hey, Squidoo has great writers and for sure will find a lens for this. Voila, I got served. Thanks for listing the sites too. Will definitely try it out when I get the time.
A Very helpful lens. I've been looking for somewhere to make an avatar. Thanks
A Very helpful lens. I've been looking for somewhere to make an avatar. Thanks
I have been looking for a different type of avatar and this has loads of ideas. Great lens.
Lots of fun! I just tried making my own avatar on faceyourmanga, but unfortunately they don't offer dark brown as a hair color option. It was fun to do anyway! :)
Fun lens! Thanks.
I read the sticky note, saw the real photo, and I think my WeeMe vote was (somehow) spot on! Love the fun and research you put into this lens. Great resource to have all these links here together.
Cool lens, love the avatar artwork.
GREAT! Lens! Made an avaitar with FaceYourManga. Glad I stumbled across this lens!
I use an avatar because I get a weird squick feeling when someone randomly approaches me and already knows my name and other stuff about me. It happened once and that was enough.
Enjoy your partial anonymity. Happy St Patrick's Day weekend.
I've never thought about a cartoon avatar but it looks like so much fun, I'm going to have to try it! Thanks for sharing.
Avatars vs photos is an interesting issue... for the longest I kind of "hid" behind a cartoon avatar. But it's nice to show a real face too.
Oh thank goodness I got here in time, only 2 days, 23 hours and about 42 minutes to a new identity for you, what fun!
This is great. I enjoyed seeing the evolution of your avatars. It seems the choices are limitless these days. I may have to jazz up my current avatar. My renaissance "Mona" is looking a bit dated (but then she is what... 532 years old?). She's holding up pretty well, I'd say. ;-)
I was looking for this for ages, thank you! I must bookmark this page. Nicely done! Have a nice day, Mitja.
love it
What a great lens. Thanks for collecting so much brilliant info in one place. I was beginning to think cartoon avatars were on their way out - phew!
Great lens! I have to go and make an avatar now. :)
Thank you, this is excellent, I just love my Avatars and now I have a whole bunch of other places to make new ones!
I have often thought about using an avatar but as of yet have not got round to it. We have always had a logo, mainly to promote our business as it can be quite recognisable and partly because we are both a bit shy. I think we might build an avatar, these are brilliant. Great lens.
I'd been looking for a good avatar-maker, so thanks for all the resources. Great lens!
Nice lens very creative idea,,Good job!! Joni
Thoroughly enjoyed my little tour of your avatar world. Good suggestions here. And thanks for the links to get to some of the fun ones. Will have to test out South Park versions. Happy St. Paddy's Day to you too!
I have always wanted to know how to make an avatar just for the fun of it. This is great!
Fun...I have tried a few a long time ago...but decided to stick with a shopping bag :)
Very interesting. Now I'm going to have to try this out - when I find time!
Cute lens! I love the different kinds of avatars.
Love it! So useful too! squid angel blessed today.
Very very interesting lens....
Very fun lens! Now i want to give this a try.
I've been looking for that manga avatar creator. Thanks :D
**Blessed** and featured on My Time as a Squid Angel :)
thank you for such a wonderful lens! learnt so much from you. cheers
Very cool...I'm going to check it out!
Very fun lens indeed. Thanks for sharing -
I've really enjoyed reading your lense. It's fun and interesting.
Thanks for this lens. I was looking for manga website for a long time. Thanks to you I have a new avatar now!
oh boy this sounds fun :D
Hmm..I haven't thought about this. This could work for me. A cartoon sundae! Thanks for the idea! Hey, your Tweets were one of the ones I followed from Twitter when I found Squidoo. I have just finished my second Lens on a 3-step plan to achieve your Goals and New Years Resolutions. It would be nice if you'd drop by and say 'hi'. Sundae ;-)
Pretty neat. I should get one of these.
nice lens
This is a great lens. Thanks for making it. Very informative. I gave you a thumbs upcause I like your lens.
Awesome lens, love it! There's a cool Lego avatar maker at http://www.reasonablyclever.com/
nice page very useful.
Very interesting lens.
Fun lens. Bookmarked, thumbed, and blessed. . .
I like you - you're a bit of Marilyn Monroe, a dash of Julia Roberts and a glob of grren troll. Hmmm. Nice! Doin' anything later this evening?
I created few of Avatars, while reading this lens (trying different links), it was really fun! Thanks for sharing this info.
I enjoyed this lens and I am book marking it to my browser so I can try some of these sites later.
Really fun! Thanks for the sites to try out.
I back for a visit. Love this lens. I still love the CoffeeMonster. Blessed! http://www.squidoo.com/horseandpony-squidangel
Very useful... and funny too! :) Thanks for this great guide to avatar makers.
awww cute lens! Thanks for sharing!
Very fun!
Congrats on Giant!!! Me too!!! Love this lens. It's amazing how many Avatar options there are. I need to create some just for fun.
Congratulations, Giant Squid!!!
You have a great collection of sites here! If I ever decide to change my avatar (again!), I'll know where to come. Great lens. Blessed by an Angel. Btw... Good luck on Giant!!! :)
I have used a couple of the avatar makers for avatars for my lenses. But with your great list, I think I'll try out a few more :-)
Now I know more about Avatars I will be having one very soon. Thanks for the great information and nice lens.
This is really a fun lens! It is great to use an avatar as a profile picture because it catches attention and it allows the writer to be remembered by most of its readers. 5*
I really enjoyed this lens! I loved seeing all your different avatars along with sites from where we can also have cartoon versions of ourselves made. My avatar is self-drawn and I've been using it because it represents me and my kitty perfectly (; *blessed by an angel*
This is fun!! Last year Ohme dressed up my twitter photo for the holidays and I keep forgetting to do that this year! It's fun to dress up once in a while, even on line!
This was fun. I have become so used to my little Ohme Bug and we have fun!
Well, I MAY create an avatar as an additional image in my lenses somewhere, especially "about me" lenses. It would satisfy my need for others to see the "real" me while allowing me to have fun, too.
I love avatars. Great lens. Add another blessing to your lipstick case!
Very tempting. I quite like my Mii - have no idea how to get it onto computer though :( Can't wait to see your next avatar reincarnation!
I can tell I will revisit this lens often so I can try making avatars. Thanks for the info.
I've always wanted to try one of these but didn't know how to get started. Thanks for the info!
Fun lens on cartoon portrait avatar profiles! thanks.
Passing through to bless this worthy lens. Happy new year!
Wonderful - thanks for sharing this with us all. FABULOUS!!! I appreciate this lens so much!!! 5*
Very true! 5 stars
Cool Lens. I wish I used an avatar as you've listed some really cool sites. Lensrolling to my real pic or avatar debate! :)
I use Yahoo and am really happy with my Avatar, although it has taken me a year to find out how to use it on other websites - basically cutting and pasting the HTML code rather than the picture itself. If you want to see it, go to my lens http://www.squidoo.com/computer_problems-an_occasi... and you will see me peering out at you, Avatar-style.Enjoyed your lens
Great lens!
Don't forget the South Park avatars, too, those are cool. Nice work, Squid Angel blessed.
Yet another fun and creative resource for folks to use on their blogs, lenses and online commuinities! Lensrolled to web graphics and apps ...
This is a cool lens - I used to use an avatar, but last year I started using this photo instead on some of my online social networks. Have you seen Gravatar? I see it listed on blogs often. I believe it's an online avatar that will work across several platforms.5* a fav and a fan!
This is great. I voted for the CoffeeMonster avatar. It is just too cute.
This was a really, really fun lens!
Hi! I like it, I'll 5#, fav and keep that lens to come back.I'll feature this lens in Musketeers lens which after JJJ2 ended I transformed in a resource lensThanks
This was fun!
Very interesting! I don't think I've seen anyone collect reviews of all these sites together in one article before, good job!
Very nice topic and well presented. You are certainly artistic. 5*and fave
I liked this lens. I made it a featured lens on my lens about Yahoo Avatars - http://www.squidoo.com/avatar-tools. 5 stars for you!
