DIY Snowflake Crafts

Updated on October 29, 2012

I have always loved snowflakes ever since I was a little girl. I have fond memories as a child just sitting on what looked like a huge blanket of snow and looking at these little things in awe and with complete amazement! Every single one of them seemed like a little miracle to me. Unfortunately, the days of seeing real snowflakes are extremely rare for me now. I live in a different part of Texas so I guess I have to settle on making my own snowflakes. I was quite happy to find countless snowflake craft tutorials while searching on the internet. So, I've decided to share some of these amazing snowflake crafts with others who share my love of snowflakes and appreciate them as much as I do. Paper snowflakes could never compare to the real thing but they are still lots of fun :)

Beaded Snowflake

I love this beaded snowflake ornament.. I love the look of this snowflake with the spirals on the ends. This would be beautiful as an ornament or attach it to your bow on your wrapped gift. See this tutorial at Craftster.

Doily Snowflake

Make this large and pretty snowflake out of doilies. This would be a lovely addition to your holiday d├ęcor! This project is at the dollar store crafts website. I love this site.. it shows you how to do projects made from inexpensive purchases at the dollar stores... and this one in particular is made using supplies purchased at the Dollar Tree which is one of my favorites. For the tutorial, go to Dollar Store Crafts.

Snowflake Garland

I LOVE this snowflake garland made from stiffened felt, ric rac and sequins for embellishment. This is just gorgeous and very simple to make! This tutorial is great with 2 pages of very cute snowflake patterns to print and use. Basically just cut your snowflakes out, decorate and attach to ric rac or ribbon and you're good to go.. See the tutorial at my cute stamps.

Recycled Plastic Snowflake

At first glance this looked like a pretty plastic snowflake of sorts and then realized it was actually made from those plastic rings that canned six packs come in. I was amazed! It was perfect for this tutorial list as I am such a nut about recycling and reusing things. Who would have thought you could do something like this with those disposable plastic ring things?! THIS is so creative!

DIY Snowflake Card

Here is a tutorial for a diy snowflake card. I love how the snowflake has been sewn onto the card. It is a really nice touch. All you have to do is cut a snowflake out of paper just like when you were a kid and of course if you do not have a sewing machine you can always just glue it on. Please go have a look at the tutorial link below and be sure to have a look around there at all the diy projects as this lady is really talented.

Sequin Snowflake Embellishments

Here is a handmade greeting card. The sequined snowflake on the front is just precious. You can use the snowflake template/pattern at the link below to apply your sequins for the snowflake. This isn't a tutorial on how to make the actual paper part of the card but it does have the template for the snowflake. Read under the card photo and she tells how she did it. Looks to me like she printed the template right onto the cardstock. Have fun!

Recycled Tin Snowflakes

Make a special ornament with decorative plastic gems, clear beads and soda cans. Yes, that's right. The metal part of this is made with soda cans. They used an embossing machine to emboss the snowflakes but it does include instructions to emboss by hand. I love this not only because it's beautiful but it's another way to recycle and reuse aluminum cans..

Domestically Speaking

I hope you enjoyed my list of snowflake craft tutorials. Of course this is just a small portion of the several you can find out there. One of the things that I learned through my search of snowflake crafts is the versatility of the paper snowflake and how it's not really just a kids craft. Have you tried making a paper snowflake lately? Give it a try again... to me it was still just as much fun as when I was a kid!! I truly hope you guys have enjoyed reading this hub and I hope that I've inspired you to do some snowflake crafts this year!

TheDailyMessenger - I am glad you enjoyed the hub! Creativity is a lifelong passion of mine. I have always admired snowflakes because they are so intricate and the fact that no two are exactly alike- just like individual creations. Thanks so much for dropping by.. Happy Holidays to you :)

      Incredible Jamie,

I used to make little arts and crafts, especially in class. I was no wiz at it, naturally, but even so, I loved to do it. In fact arts and crafts was one of the main reasons I got into storytelling, and drawing. Weird huh, I guess I got enchanted because, the idea of creation fascinated me. Every detail, and every design in any creation has a story behind it. at least that's how I have always seen it. Well anyway, greatread, and I voted up.

Angie- I'm not sure of the particular pattern you are talking about.. have you checked Google images for "snowflake pattern for photo insert" or even just "snowflake pattern" I'm sure you will find some helpful patterns there. Hope this helps!

daisydayz.- Oh, I so agree.. love the shape of snowflakes, so pretty! How cute is a snowflake tattoo?! I don't blame you for being weary though... they are so intricate. Maybe they have some temporary snowflake tattoos :)

These are great, I love snowflakes too, just the shape is so pretty. I contemplated a snowflake tattoo a while ago but worried they wouldn't get it right. So I bought snowflake earings instead, lol!

Okay--here are my first 3 of this season:

I need practice, but I am NOT going to do another until after Dec.--right? :)

I can tell you, though, that I'll be in the air a total of 23 hours over the next week and a half, and it's a very good thing that they won't let me use my lap top on the flights. :)

I was looking at the card project again--want to use the basic idea for a turkey place card--and I remembered something as I looked them over, however, I'm giving you fair warning, this is addictive--remember, balance is the key! :)

BTW, your snowflake garland is my new favorite. :)
