Here are my best tips for easy machine quiltng

Machine quilting your first quilt project can seem like a daunting task. It's hard to know where to start. With all the work and expense you have invested into your project it's understandable that you don't want to mess things up at this final stage.

Here are a few of my tips for easy machine quilting.

1 Don't tackle too much too soon, if you are a beginner start by choosing a simple quilting design like stitching in the ditch. This simply means to quilt along the seam line.

2 It is important to choose a batting or wadding suitable for machine quilting, if you are unsure ask the seller of the batting for some advice before purchasing.

3 Press your batting, backing and quilt top to remove any creases or fold lines

4 Secure all layers together. This can be done by hand using a basting stitch or you can pin all the layers together using safety pins. Make sure you start from the center and work your way outwards.

5 Choose your thread color to suit your quilt, including the color and style of your backing fabric

6 Use a walking foot for your sewing machine, this will help to feed the quilt through the machine.

7 Roll your quilt up and secure with a quilting ring, large quilts can be difficult to support.
