Etsy Seller Interview Series- DfinitiveDesign
Check out DfinitiveDesign here:
1. When did you open your shop?
"I opened shop in July of last year. It was definitely a process, just adding a few products at a time and getting a feel for how everything worked in the beginning."
2. What do you make?
"I make Designer Invitations and Stationery along with some other paper products. I am more concentrated on Wedding invitations than anything."
3. What is your favorite item in your shop?
"My favorite item in my shop is actually one of my most recent designs! It is one of the few Die cut designs I have available at the moment. It is a Black and Gold Art Deco/Roaring Twenties themed Pocket invitation with lots of flare! I also offer all of the bells and whistles to go along with it including gold envelopes, envelope liners, printed belly bands and more! People showed a lot of interest in the invitations but were looking for lesser expensive alternatives so I just recently listed a printed version of the same invitation as well. All the Glitz for about half the price!"
4. What is your biggest challenge?
"My biggest challenge is advertising. As a new-ish store, I am still building clientele and trying to get the word out about my shop and my products. It is hard to do on a very small budget! I try to do research and take advantage of free advertising opportunities such as social media."
5. Where are you from?
"My hometown is South Bend, Indiana (GO IRISH!), but after graduating college I moved to The Indianapolis, Indiana Area."
6. Why do you love Etsy?
"I love Etsy because you can find truly unique items! You can't go to Walmart and find a bracelet on the shelf, take it to the counter and say "I like this... but can you make me one that says something else in a different color?" Etsy is truly a unique experience from what you are buying to whom you are buying from."
7. Tell me about your shop
``My shop mainly targets weddings, but I offer complete customization of all of my designs, whether it is for a wedding or a baby shower or a bat mitzvah. I offer a wide range of products from invitations themselves to wine bottle labels and An 87 page printable wedding planner (it seems to be a big hit!)``
What is your favorite item from DfinitiveDesign?
8. How did you get interested in crafting?
``I have always been a creative person. I went to a Fine Arts high school and took tons of art classes there and then went to college for graphic Design. I guess it is just something that i have always had a passion for!``
9. What kind of craft would you like to learn next?
``I would really like to take my die cut invitations to the next level and get into card making. I think it would be fun and it would be a useful skill to apply towards my Etsy shop.``
10. What's in store for the future?
``You now, right now I am working a full time job, and selling on Etsy on the side. My "studio" is the other half of my bedroom. Eventually I would like to be able to have my Etsy shop be my Full time job, and be able to buy or rent a real studio space or even a store front! I don't know how realistic that is, but hey! A girls gotta dream!``
