Etsy Seller Interview Series- HartsockDesigns

Updated on May 5, 2015

Check out HartsockDesigns here:

1. When did you open your shop?

"I opened my shop in 2012 on ETSY."

2. What do you make?

"I make handcrafted jewelry; rings, bracelets, necklaces, & earrings out of 14K gold/gold fill, sterling & fine silver, gemstones & pearls. I love making something beautiful from nothing"

3. What is your favorite item in your shop?

"My favorite item in my shop is my Gemstone & Gold Artisan Bracelet. Each bracelet is one a of a kind piece of art made with multiple gemstones and colors. They are so pretty and such a pop of color with any outfit."

4. What is your biggest challenge?

"My biggest challenge is trying to find the time to work on my business (designing pieces, making jewelry, photographs, uploading & content, pricing, advertising, selling, social media) while I am working as a nurse practitioner in a busy pediatric practice, I am also a mom to two wonderful children who are in multiple activities, and trying to tend to my house & hubby. I feel guilty sitting in my studio working on jewelry when my kids want to play and the home needs attention, but I have to make some time available for everything. "

5. Where are you from?

"I am in Friendswood, Texas. Halfway between Houston & Galveston, Texas."

6. Why do you love Etsy?

"I love ETSY because anyone anywhere in the world can log on and find amazing one of a kind artists to purchase from. I am so grateful to have followers in different countries & that I have sold items all over the globe."

7. Tell me about your shop

"My shop has a little of this & a little of that. Sometimes I feel a little schizophrenic when I make jewelry. It all depends on my mood and what I am learning and have on hand at the time. I struggle with trying to streamline my designs to a more cohesive group, because I like having something for everyone. I enjoy having items that are one of a kind, that way a customer isn't wearing something so common. I also try to keep my prices competitive so that everyone can afford beautiful jewelry from Hartsock Designs Jewelry."

8. How did you get interested in crafting?

"The Christmas of 2011, my sisters and I decided to make handmade gifts instead of buying something prefabricated. We thought it would be more special & from the heart. I had a friend who taught me how to make a pair of earrings for my sisters & then I was hooked. I had an insatiable appetite for learning everything I could about how to make jewelry. I read every book I could get my hands on, watched many You Tube videos & thru trial & error I taught myself working at my kitchen table. I had ladies in the grocery store ask me where I bought my necklaces & had colleges at work purchase pieces right off my neck. I started making custom orders for my friends and family and then after about 6 months, Hartsock Designs Jewelry was born & I opened my online ETSY store. "

9. What kind of craft would you like to learn next?

"I LOVE jewelry. I LOVE learning new ways to make jewelry. Up to this point, I have been completely self taught, working from my kitchen table. I would like to take some classes on bezel making, stone setting, and metalsmithing so that I can take my jewelry designs to the next level. "

10. What's in store for the future?

"The future looks bright for Hartsock Designs Jewelry. I am hoping to branch out my business to take on some wholesale & consignment accounts to grow my business. I am also looking into classes for advancing my design capabilities. "
