Free Crochet Bikini Patterns

Updated on October 15, 2014

I've been crocheting since I was a little girl. Since then I've designed for magazines and offer free patterns at my site.

It seems like everyone is searching for free crochet bikini patterns. On this page you will find several free patterns.

The crocheted bikinis are all the rage, but a big question is what fiber works the best. If you use regular acrylic or wool, it sags when you get out of the water. It is just too absorbent.

I've researched the problem and the advice I've found is that you should use a cotton yarn or cotton blend. Size 10 cotton thread seems to work well. Knit-Cro-Sheen and Speed-Cro-Sheen work well also. Patons Grace is used in one of the patterns below and Safron by Drops Designs is also used.

Be careful about your color choice. Dark colors may fade from the chlorine in pools and white may yellow in time.

If you are concerned about the holes created from crocheting, just line them with either an extra crocheted piece or use fabric.

It is also a good idea to use elastic in all the spots that should be snug. You can now purchase this at stores where they sell sewing supplies and it comes in spools as thin as sewing thread. This can be crocheted right with the thread you are using to create the bikini. Good spots to use the elastic are the bottom of the bikini top, the waistband, and the leg openings.

List of Free Bikini Patterns

Adria Bikini is a pretty pattern offered as a free download from the Ravelry Library. Fits size B and C cups. The pants are a Rio style.

Bikini Top with Triangle Motif - The fitted bikini top was designed by Teresa Richardson and offered at Crochet Geek. You'll need crochet cotton and a size I hook. This is a nice fitted top.

Capri Bikini is a web archived pattern. The top covers more than most bikinis, but is simple to crochet. It is brought to you by PLC Designs.

Crochic Bikini is offered in 3 sizes. Small is size 6-8. Medium is size 10 and Large is size 12. Reynolds Parfait yarn is used and a size 00 steel crochet hook. You will also need a yard of elastic. This looks like an easy bikini in a classic style.

Ombre Beach Set - Hook, Yarn and Needles offers this free pattern to print. It uses Ombre yarn.

Orange Bikini and Matching Tote Bag - This is another archived pattern. The bottoms to this set cover more than most bikinis.A double strand of Puritan Crochet Cotton Thread was used in the project. The pattern is offered in sizes Small and Large.

Pineapple Monokini isn't your normal bikini. A pineapple design attaches the top and bottom. It is still alluring with the see-through pineapple design. The free pattern is offered by the blog "I Am A Crazy Yarn Lady."

Vintage Pineapple Fantasy - This free pattern is offered by D Crochet. The top and bottom of this one is connected by the pineapple also. Sizes Small, Medium and Large are offered. The pattern has good size charts and photos.

I think you'll have fun crocheting some of these free bikini patterns. Once you get started you may want to crochet several.

poetryman6969, If you use the right material to crochet it, yes they can be worn in the water. If you don't, they sag. Thanks for looking.

I have a hard time believing anyone actually wears one in the water. But I love the idea!
