Free Crochet Mitten Patterns

Updated on May 10, 2017

Crochet some mittens for the entire family this year. Included are dozens of free crochet patterns to choose from. Mittens only take about a skein of yarn, so they are also an inexpensive item to crochet. Included are sizes for children, men and women.

Keep everyone's hands toasty warm. These projects are quick enough to make a few extra pairs for charity and gifts. You can even decorate a Christmas tree with baby sized mittens.

The Free Patterns

Included are patterns for fingerless mitts that are so fashionable right now and mittens that will cover your entire hand. These patterns are from all over the internet.

Click on the blue titles to go to the site.

Alaska Mittens - This mitten pattern uses Garn Studio Alaska yarn to crochet the main body of the mitten. For the wrist edging you'll need Drops Puddel yarn. A chart is included for alternate choices of yarn. The mittens are worked in hdc.

Beginner Mitts for All - You'll find the patterns for mittens that will fit the entire family at All Free Crochet. They are crocheted with Red Heart Super Saver yarn. Any worsted weight should work well. Options are given for solid colors or stripes.

Bev's Marvelous Mittens - This simple pattern for mittens will fit children to adult sizes and is offered by Bev's Country Cottage. The mittens are crocheted in all one piece working lengthwise. It looks like an easy pattern for the beginner.

How to Crochet Mittens

Cocoa and Cream - Worsted weight yarn is used to crochet these pretty fingerless mitts. A 4.5 mm hook was used to create these beauties that fit lady sized hands. These are offered by the Mayweed Blog.

Cozy - This variegated pattern is brought to you by Favecrafts. It uses chunky worsted weight yarn and a size I hook.

Easy Mitts - This mitten pattern is illustrated to help you through the pattern. Regular worsted weight yarn was used and a size H hook. She calls these Bella mittens and asks that you only use the pattern for personal use. The pattern is offered by April Draven Designs.

Men's - This pattern from Sue's Crochet and Knitting is for a pair of mittens that are also fingerless gloves. You just need to flip the top down to make them into fingerless gloves. The pattern is created with worsted weight yarn and a size H hook.

Papa's Hobo Hands - The pattern from Knit-R-Done is for fingerless mittens. You will need fingering weight or sock weight yarn to complete the pattern. She used a size C hook. Also included are sizes for ladies and children.

Pretty Mittens -The pattern from ABC Knitting are crocheted with wool yarn and a size C crochet hook in both blue and white. These are pretty with a design all around each mitten.

How to Make Crochet Mittens by the Crochet Geek

Simply Easy Mittens - From Oombawka Designs, these are simple mittens to crochet. They'd be great for the beginner. The design is crocheted with Bernat Chunky Weight yarn and a 5.5 mm hook.

Retro - These mittens were crocheted 100% wool yarn. The cuff is nice and stretchy and the mittens are crocheted with two colors of yarn. Canadian Living offers the design.

Women's Two Toned Gloves - These aren't really mittens, but I thought I'd add them if you are looking for something to keep your hands warm. The gloves aren't hard to crochet, but I don't suggest them for a beginner. These are brought to you by the Free Vintage Crochet site.

Wristwarmers - The wristwarmer pattern is created with worsted weight yarn and a size H or I crochet hook. This pattern is offered in a woman's size. This pattern is offered by The Crafty Beaver.

Kim M Gregory, I think it is still being passed down, but isn't as popular as the days when they made the doilies so much or in the '70s when it was part of the hippie movement. Thanks for visiting the page.

Crochet is such a lost art. Nice to see that some folks out there are still interested in this craft.

lucybell21, Thanks for commenting. It makes me think of the 3 little kitten who lost their mittens. My kids were always losing theirs. That is why I learned how to crochet them. I'm happy the hub brought back some memories.

Who can have to many cute mittens!

mittens are warmer than gloves, and remind me of back in the day when I was a little girl.
