Crochet Patterns for Baby Boys are Hard to Find
When our son was born, I found that crochet patterns for baby boys were hard to find. At that time, I ended up designing my own. The ones for girls are offered everywhere. Crochet patterns are often ruffly and lacy and are just too girly for boys.
I decided it was high time to make finding baby boy patterns easier for everyone, so I've compiled a list of them. I hope this saves you some time.
Afghans and Blankets for Baby Boys
Cascading Ripples by Yarn Inspirations, is crocheted in the classic zigzag design. Bernat Baby Coordinates yarn was used. The pattern is rated easy.
Crib Blanket is offered at Craftsy. The blanket is crochet with two colors and even though it is appropriate for boys, it is a pretty pattern. Worsted weight yarn is used. The site offers patterns in both US and UK-Aust format.
Coltons Baby Afghan is a quick and easy baby blanket that even a beginner can crochet. If you've learned to read a pattern, it shouldn't be too difficult. The blanket is created quickly with worsted weight acrylic yarn. The pattern uses blue and white yarn, but you can be creative and use any colors you'd like.
Leaping Stripes and Blocks was named this, because one row seems to be leaping over the next row. The pattern is offered by the Moogly Blog. The blanket is sized for a preemie baby, but instructions for a standard size is included. It uses 3 colors of worsted weight yarn and a size I crochet hook. Her patterns are are always easy to follow.
X-tra Sport Baby Blanket is a pretty pattern that can be crocheted for either a boy or a girl, as can be seen in the photo. You'll need baby sports weight yarn in any color and a size 4.00 mm hook.
Videos are included to help you learn the flat yarn braid. The pattern is for intermediate and up crocheters.
Bib, Bottle and Burp Cloth would make a nice gift for the new baby. The design uses 2 colors of worsted weight cotton yarn and has a picot edge. If the edging is too frilly for your taste, you can just not add it. This pattern is offered to you by Patterns for Crochet.
Side Strap Baby Bib - The bib snaps on the side preventing any choking hazard. Cotton worsted weight yarn was used in the project. Since the bib is crocheted with cotton yarn, it will be washable. A simple single crochet stitch is used. If you are used to decreases and increases, the bib should be easy for you to crochet.
Two Toned Baby Bib - The shape of this bib is a little different as can be seen in the photo. I like it. You'll need worsted weight cotton and a size H hook.
Crochet Booties and Slippers
High Top Converse Slippers is a pattern that would be cute for any little boy. The slippers are available in sizes 6 to 12 months. The pattern is offered for free by Knot Your Nana's Crochet site. You'll need double knitting yarn, which is just a light weight worsted and a size 5.5 hook.
Newborn Football Hat and Slippers is a great pattern for any baby's parents that are football fans. They'll love this set. Both the hat and slippers look like footballs. The project was crocheted with cotton yarn and a size G hook. The pattern is offered for free by the Earning My Cape site.
Snowman Booties pattern is offered by the About.com site. The design fits 3 to 12 month sizes. The skill rating for these slippers is easy, so they are good for the beginner. Worsted weight yarn is used. The design is a simple slipper pattern with an appliqued snowman attached. A pattern for a hat to match is also available.
Crochet Hats and Caps for Boys
Giraffe Hat is another cute one. Hand Me Down Hobby offers this one. She used Hometown USA yarn by Lionbrand. It is considered a bulky or super bulky yarn. Because of this, the hat should be super quick to crochet. You'll also need a size J hook to complete the project. The finished hat will fit sizes 0 to 3 months.
Engine Hat is special since it is modeled after Thomas the Train. The pattern will need to be downloaded at Ravelry. Sizes included are 6-18 months for babies and 2 toddler to 5 toddler.
Hungry Caterpiller Hat can be crocheted with Vanna's Choice yarn or any worsted weight. It is crocheted in double crochet a front post. The hat fits sizes 6 to 12 months. The free pattern is offered by the Hand Me Down Hobby site.
Newborn Minion Hat is simple to crochet with bulky and DK weight yarn. The pattern is offered by the Hopeful Honey site. It is sized for newborn to 3 month.

Infant Jogging Suit is a cute pattern from the Crochet Kim site. The free pattern is a PDF download. Instructions are included for 3 to 18 month sizes. It calls for TLC Cotton Plus yarn and a size F and G crochet hook.
Newborn Layette is perfect for the new baby boy. The pattern is offered by Red Heart Yarn. It uses sports weight yarn and a size G hook. Included is a hat, sweater and booties.
Patriotic Baby Set can be worn anytime of the year. It includes a sweater, booties and a hat in of course red, white and blue. The pattern includes sizes for the preemie baby to newborn. Fingering weight yarn is used for the design. P2 Designs offers this free pattern.
Sock Monkey and Matching Blanket is another that is offered at Ravelry. You will need to download the pattern. The design uses Red Heart Super Saver yarn. You could use any other 4-ply worsted to complete the project.
Tiger Hat is offered by Repeat Crafter Me. The design is worked in 3 different colors of worsted weight yarn. Not only is this a warm hat, but is as cute as can be. I recommend this one.
Tuxedo Baby Top and Shorts is a must have for summer clothes. The free pattern is from the Crochet Kim site. Designer Kim Guzman crocheted this with Red Heart Luster Sheen and a size F hook, so it will be just the right weight for summer.
Who Do You Crochet the Most For?
David Peacoat is a free pattern is an unusual stitch that you'll love. It uses just one skein of Baby Softee yarn and a size F hook. You'll love this design that is so unique.
Everyday is a Sweater Day is from the Yarny Days Blog. The sweater is made with worsted weight yarn, so should be quick to crochet. It will fit a size 12 month baby.
Newborn Layette needs to be downloaded. This cool pattern is from Redheart yarn. The project is completed with Redheart Designer Sport yarn which is now discontinued, but you can use any sport weight yarn. A size G hook is used. Buttons are used down the front. A hat and booties pattern is included.

Toys for Baby Boys - Crochet Patterns
Toys are fun to crochet for gifts for grandchildren and your own baby. Most take little yarn and can be a good way to use up scraps.
