Free Crochet Patterns for Hats

Crocheted hats are always in style, whether it be in the winter or in the summer. They not only help to keep your head nice and warm, but brimmed hats can also help to keep the sun out of the eyes. In addition, hats are a great way to deal with a bad hair day.

Most hats are crocheted in the round, and worked from the top-center down. The stitches are increased in each round until the circumference is large enough, and then the rows are worked in even stitches in order to create the shape in the hat.

As with many other crochet accessories, crocheted hats are fun and easy to make. Some patterns are more difficult than others, however, there are many hat patterns that are suitable for beginners. If you are a beginner, you might want to check out my other hub on beginner crochet patterns. There you will find a few nice hat patterns for beginners.

Most crochet hat patterns call for a worsted weight yarn, which helps for the hat to crochet up quite fast. Some hats can be crocheted up in as little as an hour, but others can take at least several hours to make.

Deeply Textured Hat - The Laughing Willow

This hat is crocheted with nice textures that are created with the front post triple crochet. The hat looks simple, and has instructions on how to adjust the size if you are using a lighter yarn than what the designer used. - Deeply Textured Hat

Fall Blaze Hat - Snowcatcher

The color combo in this fall blaze hat is absolutely stunning! I also love the stitch combinations that are used in this pattern. The stitches are very simple in each row, however, they work together to create a nice lacy design. - Fall Blaze Hat

Garnet Beret and Gloves - Mrs. D Crochets...

This is a matching set for a hat and a pair of fingerless gloves. The elegant design in the stitch pattern makes this a pair to wear to just about any occasion. The yarn used is Red Heart Super Saver. - Garnet Beret and Gloves

Matching Hat and Scarf - CrochetN'Crafts

Here is another matching set, and this one is for a hat and a scarf. Both the hat and scarf are worked with two strands of yarn, and you can use the same color for both strands, or use two for some extra color. - Matching Hat and Scarf

Single Crochet Hat

Here is a simple pattern for a single crochet hat. The only other stitch that is used is the double crochet cross stitch. Both stitches are easy and suitable for a beginner to tackle. The hat works up quick and can be worn by both men and women depending on what colors you choose. Single Crochet Hat

Slouching for Charity - Batalong Toys and Crafts

If you love slouchy hats, then you will love this one. It has just the right amount of “slouch” to it, and looks beautiful with the stitches that are used. This pattern was originally designed for a charity cause, and I’m sure that every recipient was thrilled to receive a copy. - Slouching for Charity

You are making me wish I was somewhere in warm climate too. :) But I guess I can't complain too much because this winter has been real good so far...hardly any snow and I hope it stays that way.

Not a big hat wearer hear in Hawaii, but I did crochet them when I lived on the mainland and I occasionally make them for gift-giving. This is a nice collection of patterns. (The right shade of) blue and brown are one of my favorite color combos. Rated up and useful!
