I still had some purple cotton thread left from crocheting Donna's Phone Cozy # 1. Since my sister won't need it anymore, I thought of making a phone cozy for my younger sister.

Halfway through, my husband saw what I was crocheting and said, "MINE!" Good thing they have the same model of phone - Samsung Galaxy Y.

Working sc's in alternating front and back loops creates this amazing texture that I personally think is feminine. But since purple is my husband's favorite color, I couldn't convince him to let go of his claim.

Aside from its beautiful purple color, he also loves how perfectly it hugs his phone. This stitch pattern produces this stretchy crochet fabric that's probably great for socks, gloves, and other crochet projects where you'll require some elasticity.

This phone cozy is not for my sister Donna but I thought it's a good idea to put all my phone cozy patterns under her name because she got me into this frenzy in the first place. Now I want to make phone cozies for all my family and friends!

I intentionally made this picture small so you can appreciate the beauty of this stitch pattern. It's hard to see the charming wavy pattern if the picture is too big.

Required Skill:

  • Working on both sides of the chain
  • Working in rounds
  • Working sc's in front and back loops (see video below)

Measurements:

Length: 4.5 in

Width: 2.5 in

Gauge: 10 sts and 10 rows per in

This measurements were taken after the phone cozy has been in use for a while. Fresh off the hook, the width was smaller and the length was longer. All that is due to the stitch pattern's elasticity .

Materials and Tools:

  • Mercerized crochet cotton
  • #7 (1.65mm) steel hook

Notes:

If you plan to modify this pattern to fit your phone, here's some tips to help you.

During the first 5-7 rounds, keep measuring the width to make sure it'll fit your phone. As the rounds pile up, the width will become shorter. But don't worry, if it fits during the first 5-7 rounds it'll be okay.

Because of this, the cozy needs to be a little longer than the phone. It'll become shorter when stretched.

Front and Back Loops (Video)

If this is your first time to work on the front and back loops of a stitch, this video will help you locate where the front and back loops of a stitch are. It's not that hard. Like everything else, you just need to get used to it.

Crocheting stitches on the front and/or back loops results into a crochet fabric that is very elastic.

The following chart pattern is NOT an actual representation of the written pattern.

It only serves as an illustration of the written pattern. However, it can also serve as a formula/recipe should you want to modify this pattern into something else.

Blocking

I thought maybe you'd like to give this as a gift. You don't want to give it without blocking because you don't want it to curl at the corners.

Here's a video that can help you in blocking. Though its quite amateurish, it covers the basics of blocking a crocheted piece.

From this shot, it almost looks like Donna's Phone Cozy #1. It must be the color of the cozy and the phone. But my HUSBAND LOVES THIS SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH.
