Childrens Nightmares & Horror Photography Combine

Updated on May 5, 2010

JOSHUA HOFFINE

Horror Photography is what Joshua calls his works of Art. The Visuals in each picture are incredibly horrifying and each in a different way. Whomever the person may be looking a each piece of his work will have a different experience depending on perhaps what their own childhood fears were. From what terrible creatures that we believe to be hiding in our basement to what monsters are lurking in our closet Joshua has managed to Capture them all.

When Joshus was asked what led him to do tis type of warped imagery he replied "I used to read fairy tales to my daughters. I fell in love with the imagery of these stories. I had decided to make a series of photographs based on fairy tales. While I was preparing for this project, I began reading Stephen King's Danse Macbre. In that book, he suggests that horror films are modern fairy tales. My mind started moving in another direction, and I ended up making a series of photographs based on childhood fears instead."

Many of his pictures make me wonder if they are Art that people should appreciate or something horrible that no one should ever see. No matter how I feel about them I cant help but staring at them in absolute AW, just because of there stunning realism and true artistic lighting and graphics.

On his website Joshua states that he treats his photo shoots like small movies with sets, costumes, elaborate props, fog machines, and special effects make-up. He also says he uses his friends and family as his crew and models so everyone works for free. Hoffine even uses his own chilrdren in all of his photos but says they go through the entire process of making the props and scenes from start to finish with him, so they are not scared they look at it more like dress up.

You can purchase his photos on his website. Please leave a comment below if you found this interesting. Thanks ;)

They're excellent, I stumbled across the monster under the bed art a few months back and didn't know it was part of a set. I understand your urge to stare at them in awe, brilliant.

Cool hub. Awesome artwork! I imagined many monsters as a child...then I grew up and saw the real ones.
