How Do I Knit A Potholder? Free Patterns

Updated on March 16, 2018

WARNING

I believe it is very IMPORTANT

In fact it is a must that you use 100 % Cotton when knitting potholders..

Acrylics could burn or melt..

Knit Potholders

Store bought potholders were just not working for me. They were either to thin giving me reason to believe that it would not keep me safe from a burn or they were so bulky, that I could hardly bend them, again, causing me to worry about getting burned, Because they feel so awkward.

I definitely did need new potholders. Mine were simply worn out, And that is not to mention how ugly they were getting to be. So finding a solution was something that needed to be taken care of.

I couldn't even find a knitting pattern that, only needed one strand of yarn. If I did then I needed to knit the pattern twice and then sew the two knit pieces together. I don't per say mind making two, but when I do make two , then I want two potholders.

So I set to work creating a knitting pattern that would work for me. I needed a potholder that was suitable for me to be able to hold hot cooking equipment, my pots and pans as well as bake ware, safely and comfortably.

The potholder had to be thick enough to keep me from getting burned , but not so thick that I couldn't wrap it around a handle of a hot pan. it had to be easy to make and machine washable. And I wanted to use only one strand of yarn.

So the pattern below seems to be working for me..I like the feel of it in my hands . It feels safe and its pretty too..I will be making more in some really fun colors.

Potholder Or Hot Pad

Potholder/Hot Pad

This is a great beginning project -- the hot pad is luxuriously thick and won't develop thin spots like store-bought potholders! I love the bright solid colors that were used in these potholders. Must register with Lionbrand to have access to the free pattern.
