How To Make A Paper Plate Cow

Updated on June 27, 2017

You can DIY or you can buy a cow craft paper plate kit, either way it's fun to make a cow with paper plates. It's easy enough to make your own cow skin pattern by cutting brown or black pieces of construction paper. Make your own big brown cow eyes, a cow nose, and of course, some ears using construction paper and craft scissors. A little craft glue and a paper plate will complete your simple supply list. You can get really fancy and add some googly eyes, pretty eyelashes, or some pretty ribbons as a decoration. Or you can buy a kit from an online craft supply store like Oriental Trading or Amazon...in that kit will be all the same pieces I mentioned.

Either way, it is fun to make a cow craft with paper, paper plates, and glue. Take a look at some of the different crafts I found that are all made with paper plates and the theme for everyone of them is cows.

Paper Plate Cow - Craft Ideas For Kids

To make this adorable paper plate cow you will need the following items:

  • A Paper plate
  • Pink and brown paper
  • White paper
  • Black marker
  • Red ribbon
  • Glue
  • Scissors

First cut the face out of some white paper. Next cut some ears out of the pink paper and a white mouth out of the white paper. Draw a mouth on using a brown marker. Make the eyes and mouth with a black marker. Take the brown paper and cut some spots for the body of the cow, make these spots a big irregular around the edges. Make some legs and a cow tail using the white paper and some small brown spots to glue on these smaller areas of the cow's body. Finally assemble your cow by gluing all the parts and spots on the paper plate. Glue the two edges of the ribbon onto the back of your paper plate. This will work as a hanger.

What Color Do You Want Your Cow To Be?

Have you ever seen a purple cow? Well, you can make one if you like. Since this is your cow craft, you get to decide what color you want to make it. Check out pictures of cows of different colors and choose your favorite. I posted a purple cow picture right below and you will also find a poem kids will enjoy.

I never saw a Purple Cow,

I never hope to see one;

But I can tell you, anyhow,

I'd rather see than be one.

Paper Plate Cow Mask

To make this cow mask you first must cut holes for eyes in your paper plate. Then cut some construction paper to look like the pink cow mouth and the dark cow ears. Glue them into place. Decorate your cow's eyes with a black or colored marker, see how pretty they look in the picture?

Decorate your cow mask with a brown marker or crayon to make some spots. Making an animal mask, like this cow one, is an easy but fun craft for kids.
