How to Draw Stewie and Brian from Family Guy

Updated on July 17, 2017

If you're a fan of the cartoon show Family Guy, odds are some of your favorite characters are baby Stewie and the dog Brian. Together as a pair Brian and Stewie make for a great comedic duo. Well, they are fairly simple to draw they can be hard because the simplicity is in the shapes. In order for the characters to look just right their shapes need to be perfect. Now I'm not saying that my shapes are perfect because they are not but I tried. So enjoy learning how to draw these hilarious characters, or at least their heads.

Steps 1, 2 and 3

How to Draw Stewie Griffin

First I will start by showing you how to draw Stewie Griffin. The key with Stewie is his weird football shaped head.

Step 1: Start by drawing an oval shaped head. It's like an overinflated football. Draw half an oval on top, and half an oval on the bottom. And there's a slight point where the two meet. Stewie's head is very big so don't draw it too small. It may take a while to get the perfect shape.

Step 2: His nose is very easy. Find the middle of his head and then move to the right just a little bit and draw the open triangle nose that points to the right.

Step 3: His mouth is fairly easy. Draw a backslash line \ just below his nose. Then draw a slightly curved line to the left. Then a small forward slash line / on the bottom. And that is Stewie's little smirk.

Steps 4, 5 and 6

Eyes, ears and finishing details

Step 4: To add Stewie's eyes draw two big circles on either side of his nose. Then draw the pupil of the eye in the center. Next add in the eye lids. The upper eyelids slant down towards the nose, and the bottom eyelids slant upwards the nose (the bottom eyelids are optional).

Step 5: Stewie's ear are very simple. On each side of his head, where the points are, draw a "C" shape and then add a little line inside and that's all.

Step 6: Adding Stewie's hair and eye brows. His eye brows are easy they follow the same slant as his upper eyelid, right above his eyes. Not too long but not too short either. His hair is also simple. just little curved lines starting just past his head and extending inward. All around his head.

Well that's all there is to it. It may not look exactly like Stewie but like I said you have to work the shapes just perfect. So make any corrections and also try different eyes and mouth for different expressions. Have fun!

Time to Draw Brian Griffin

Now that we know how to draw Stewie it's time to draw Brian. I will warn you that he may come out looking like Snoopy or Gromit, but keep trying the shapes again until you get it. This is a drawing of his profile.

Step 1: Start with his nose, draw a big oval and color it in black.

Step 2: To give the shape of his muzzle draw a tube shape that extends from the right side of his nose around to the left and extend straight lines about an inch and a half. Then at the end of each line draw a slight curve upwards.

Step 3: His mouth might be a lil tricky but just try to do what I did. So start about half way on the bottom of the nose, then leave a slight gap so that his mouth is open, and draw his chin. Almost like a wave shape. Then on the bottom nose take the curved end and connect it to the chin, like a scoop. Color in the gap area, and that's his mouth. Whew!

Drawing Brian Griffin

Step 4: Drawing his eyes are easy. Draw one full circle and then a half circle behind his nose that connects to the first circle. Then add in his upper eye lids, which are rounded as opposed to Stewie's. And only come down about a quarter of the eye. Then add the pupil, which will sit right on the nose of the right eye.

Step 5: This is the ear, top of the head and his back head/neck. Draw a curved line starting at his 2nd eye and moving to the left. Then a bump for the top of the left ear. Then draw a rounded square for the floppy ear. Also a small detail but draw a bump starting at the 2nd eye and connect it to the top of the muzzle to give an illusion of the right ear. Then draw a line from the ear down the connection to the bottom of the mouth.

Step 6: Draw in his doggie collar. Make any corrections. Such as changing the shapes and sizes.

Well that's It! Now you know how to draw both Stewie and Brian Griffin. Try drawing them with their bodies and other facial expressions. Now Go Practice!
