Loraine loves arts and crafts and used to volunteer at an elementary art class. She loves sharing fun and kid-friendly craft tutorials.

One of the most popular, of the craft trends is rope crafts. Rope is much more versatile than I ever imagined. The rope crafts include baskets, jewelry, rugs and wall hangings. You’ll find items which are made using very heavy roping, and also items using light weight rope, jute or twine.

All the rope crafts found in this article include pictures, tutorials and templates, or patterns, when needed. I hope you find a couple of projects that you’ll want to make.

Find the tutorial for making the bird feeder shown above at Dabbles and Babbles.

1. Twinkle Light Shades

Imagine how pretty these lights would look illuminating a patio or beach party. Very easy to make when you follow the tutorial given at Ella Claire Inspired. This looks like a beautiful garland with or without lighting.

2. Ceiling Light Cover

You'll need a wire planter and rope to make this unique and attractive ceiling light cover. Find all the information you'll need to make one like it by going to love maegan for the tutorial.

3. Plate Chargers

Plate chargers can really dress up a table setting. These rope chargers are perfect for an informal style celebration. All the directions for making rope plate chargers is found at tikkido.

4. Rope and Pages Bowl

This project combines two craft ideas, using rope and book pages to make a charming and useful bowl. To make a lovely rope and pages bowl, go to grown up for the information. I love the looks of this fruit filled bowl.

5. Rope Planter Pot

Go to the RICE DESIGN site for the tutorial. Who would think that adding just a bit of rope changes a planter into a lovely piece of decor.

6. DIY Rope Basket

You're going to love this rope craft, trust me. An inexpensive plastic basket, the kind you can buy at the dollar store, makes this a simple and easy project. Find all the information you need to make this rope basket at i heart organizing.

7. Coastal Rope Mirror

It's amazing how, by using rope, a plain framed mirror is changed into a stately one you'll love hanging in a prominent place. You'll find the tutorial for this project at the picket fence.

8. Nautical Rope Vase

What an inexpensive way to make beautiful pots for fresh flowers. A glass jar is set inside the coffee can to hold the water for the flowers. Directions for making this rope vase is found at the Bungalow Blue Interiors site.

9. Hanging Shelf

It's not hard to understand how to make a hanging shelf using rope, when you've read the instructions given at BURKATRON.

10. Decorative Pumpkin

I like the vintage look of this craft. The tutorial to help you make this decorative pumpkin is found at Completely Coastal.

11. Sisal Lamp Shade

The sisal rope used for making this shade is the lighter weight type. Very nice. Check the directions at SAND & SISAL when you are ready to try this project. I really like the looks of that fishnet cover on the glass container by the lamp too. Check out the video below, about making a fishnet cover.

12. Jute Napkin Rings

When you go to the HOME STORIES site for the tutorial for making the jute napkin rings, you'll also see how they used twine to finish the ends of the rope.

13. Monkey Fist Book End

Making this monkey fist book end looked impossible to me until I watched the video that is included with the tutorial at Heart Maine Home. I still don't think it looks easy, but I think I could master it after watching the video a few times.

These sisal trivets are perfect for those informal occasions when extra dishes aren't needed. The instructions for making the trivets are found at hi sugarplum!

16. Fish Net Knotted Jar

A nautical rope wreath, with a pictured tutorial at the HGTV site. The pictures shown on the sight give a very good lesson on how to tie the rope into the wreath, and also explain how to achieve the colored stripe appearance.

18. Macrame Plant Hangers

Check out the tutorial for making this macrame plat hanger at ALMOST MAKES PERFECT.

19. Knotted Jute Bottles

These I love. The tutorial for making the knotted jute bottle covers is found at hometalk.

20. Sisal Scratching Post

Anyone who has a cat, that owns them, will probably try to make points with the cat boss by making a sisal scratching post for his or her Highness. I'm sure the cat will find this to be an engaging gift. You can find instructions for making the scratching post at PRACTICALLY FUNCTIONAL.

21. Triple Paracord Bracelets

I have a few young granddaughters who I think would love to make these paracord bracelets. The instructions are found at LEARNINGCENTER. Paracord comes in many beautiful colors.

23. TV Tray Table Re-do

If you don't have a tray table that you want to re-do, go to a neighborhood garage sale, you'll most probably be able to pick one up for just a dollar or two. Then you'll want to re-do the tray table by following the tutorial at the apartment therapy site.

24. How-to Rope Mirror

The tutorial that you'll find at the martha stewart site makes crafting this rope mirror easy to do.

25. Large Sisal Planter

Big is definitely better when you are choosing a planter for your porch or patio. And notice, on the picture, how splendid the sisal rope makes the planter look. A real splendiferous look!! Four Generations ONE ROOF is the site that shares the instructions with us.

26. Rustic Tree Swing

This rope swing takes me back many years, remembering the swing at Grandpa's house. Now you can give the kids, and yourself, a little bit of old fashioned fun, by making a handsome rustic tree swing. Follow the directions given at Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom to make the rope swing.

27. Super Easy Macrame Hanger

28. Hurricane Vase with Rope

Making these vases will be inexpensive when you purchase the glass hurricanes at the dollar store. A Pumpkin & A Princess shares easy to follow instructions.

I have an old basket that would look great wrapped like this one. Time to do some crafting! I notice that the tutorial at THE COUNTRY CHIC COTTAGE explains how to do this project with great directions.

36. Glass Float & Rope Wreath

When you go to Sand&Sisal to find the tutorial for making this wreath, you'll also find directions for coloring the glass floats that trim the wreath. An altogether wonderful nautical themed wreath project.

37. DIY Rope Pot

The author of this craft tutorial at Nostalgiecat gives some very useful tips. One of the tips is to use wax coated thread rather than embroidery floss, because the thread slides easier. It's always nice to know those things so you can get the best supplies for the project. She has a great pictured tutorial on her site.

Thank you, RTalloni and purl3agony, for your comments. I used to think that rope crafts were only appropriate if used in nautical style decor. But, I'm happy to say, there are rope projects that can be incorporated in other decorating styles also. One of my favorites is the fishnet knotted wine bottles.

What a fun line up of rope crafts. My affinity for being in the ocean makes me love all of these. The kid in me loves the rustic tree swing. The southern outdoors that I love makes me want to create a lighting something for our new back porch (when it is finished), and … :)
