Choose the best digital camera

To save your family memories, everyone needs to have a quality digital camera. There are so many choices on the market now it is very hard to choose the best digital camera for you. You need to narrow down the search by deciding what options are most important to you.

You must decide what you want to be able to do with the camera then decide what fits in you budget and what is the best size and has the options you need. The largest group and the hardest group to choose from are the general pocket cameras for family shots, vacation shots and everyday snapshots. Doing a little planning before you even start looking will help you quickly narrow down the hundreds of choices, when you finish the process and get a camera, you will know that you picked the right camera for your needs.

Rate importance of features for you

If you are looking for the best digital camera over $500, you know what you want it to do and the things you need, and the brand that you want. This article is for the under $500 market.
Make a list of these options and rate them 1-5, 5 being most important to you. 1 being
least important.

Price, Family shots, Landscapes, Do you want a wide angle lens, and a long zoom.
Portraits - Most normal zooms can take good portraits.
Wildlife - Need a long zoom to get good wildlife shots.
Battery type - Can use AA rechargeable or proprietary camera batteries.
Memory type - Most now use SD cards.
Zoom Distance - For general shooting a 3-6X is ok. For landscapes you want the lower
number to be in the 28mm or lower.
Image stabilization - I think this is a must for point and shoot cameras.
Brand - If you have a brand you think is best, rate this high.

Narrow the choice down

Now go to one of the large camera websites like and look at the cameras. Make a list of all the ones that are in your price range. Stick to the main brands.Go through your list and see what options they have. Narrow the search down to 4 or 5 that have what you want. Go to your favorite search engine and type in camera reviews.

Go to the review sites and look at the cameras that are left in your list. Make sure you check the user reviews, these are the customers that are actually using the camera, and see how they like the camera, and why they would choose a particular camera as the best digital camera.

Making the Final Decision

Once you have it down to 2 or 3, go to the store and see how they feel, and if they are the right size you need. Play with the controls and see if they are easy to use. Choose the one that you feel is best digital camera for you. The more expensive the camera, the more you can save online. So buy it at the store or online depending on if you need it now or if the price is right. Don’t forget to check the size when you are at the store.

This is one of the big reasons to go and physically see the camera. I have a Canon powershot sd model, that I got because it is a great camera, and also because it is small enough to fit in a case that I carry with me all the time. I have 10 other cameras for various things, but I always have the canon with me. This camera will not do many things that I sometimes want a camera to do, but it was chosen because it was best for what I wanted this camera to do. I wanted to always have a camera with me.

I think the worst thing you can do is to go out and just buy a camera because it looks cool, or it’s a nice color. There are so many choices out there, the chances of getting a camera that is not right for you is very good. Take a couple of hours and do the research to find the best digital camera, in the long run it will be time well spent, and you will have the best digital camera for you, and will be there for what you want it for.
