How to do stipple drawings
Leopard Stipple Drawing from High School: First Attempt Ever *SEE EASY*
Step by step
Stippling means you take your pen and instead of drawing, you create your picture dot by dot just like a printer does. When you do this don't press your pen too hard, practice on a separate sheet of paper first to get the hang of it.
Large Sheet of Paper
Fine Point Sharpie (Black is best but other colors can be used for creativity)
and a Pencil
Optional: Black and White Picture
Step one: Print out a black and white picture of the portrait or drawing you want to copy. It has to be black and white for this activity because you are doing something similar to shading. If you aren't copying a picture then skip to step three.
Step two: On the picture you're copying as well as the paper you will be stippling on draw a border and a X-type grid to help you see where everything goes.To do the border just make it even 1in should do.To do the grid, take your ruler and make a X then, using the x as a guide make four boxes and put x's on each one of them then, Make four boxes from those x's. Depending on the size of your paper this should do. (in pencil)
Step three: Start sketching (in pencil) in shapes from dark to light. This will show you where you will need to stipple more heavily. Don't try drawing your picture it is unnecessary and will get messed up in he process, just look at the shading and copy those shapes. *Notice the shapes and shading on the example.*
Step four: Start stippling (in ink) the darkest areas and work up to the light ones from there. Remember you're not coloring in, you're dotting each shade. Do each dot quickly and don't press hard. If you're afraid of making a segment too dark stop on that area and come back to it later if it needs adjusting. *Use example as a guide*
Step five: Add your final details (in ink) and straighten out some of the shading that was too light or if some were too dark you can make all your lighter areas a bit darer to even it out.
Step six: After you know the ink is dry erase you border and any stray pencil marks. Frame and enjoy.
