How to make a cute clown bowtie, bow tie for Halloween clown costume. Illustrated step-by-step guide.
Halloween costume accessory made cheap and fast.
Bow tie is a cute accessory for a formal wear or a clown costume, depending on the occasion. Bow tie could bring any outfit into life fast. Making a bow tie extra small or extra large could make a great statement. Same with choosing a fabric pattern. If it is a formal occasion, classic black is your best bet. However, if you are making an accessory for a fun occasion, such as a school play, Halloween or a carnival, then go for stripes, polka dots or some other bright fun fabric pattern.
For me and many other parents out there, spending big money on pre-made fashion accessories is not in our budgets. If you are in the same situation, do not let this stop you or your children from being fun and fashionable.
Below I am including a simple plan for bow tie clown accessory. It will cost you less than $3 and about 1 hour of your time. (If you have an old cotton shirt with a fun pattern, you could use it to make about a dozen of bows-and not spend a dime! By the way, this bow tie was an outdated curtain we had in our closet.)
Your original bow accessories can be just as colorful and unique as a little clown wearing it.

To make a bow tie, you will need:
- Fabric - about a yard. Remember to check your closet first. Outdated curtains and cotton shirts could supply you with a great piece of fabric for free.
- Thread and needle. (Sewing machine is optional)
- Fabric scissors
- Ruler or measuring tape
- Stiffer fabric to put inside of the bow
- Ribbon or Elastic for the neck
- Small button, clip, or a velcro piece
