How to make a mothers day, birthday or other greeting card.

Updated on January 2, 2013

Create a unique greeting card for mothers day or someone special in less than 30 minutes

Some basic essentials

In this age of technology lots of birthday and other greetings are sent via the computer. When it's my birthday or a special day for someone else I really enjoy and appreciate receiving and sending handpicked or handmade cards to express a personalized greeting. Somehow a line on facebook just doesn't do that:-)

Making cards can be vey simple and quite inexpensive. For a basic kit (you can find lots of these items in garage sales or at the dollar store): A paper cutter, stamps and pens for colouring them, collection of craft papers and or papers you collect from greetings cards and bags, tissue paper etc. glue stick, sticky pop dots, couple of pairs of craft scissors with verigated edges, notions and stickers. A pack of pre folded card stockand envelopes available in white, cream and a variety of colours from most craft stores.

How to begin

Select papers and colours from your collection that speak to the person for whom the card is intended. As you pull out they colours, see how they fit together, that will inspire your theme. Experiment with layering the colours. Find a stamp or a notion that fits with the theme.

Lay out some colours of paper that reflect the person the card is for

Find a notion to finish off the theme - use a pop dot to fix it in place.

Assembling the card

Cut to size the papers you have selected using the paper cutter. Trim one or two of the edges with verigated scissors. As you glue the layers on top of each other alternate textures and patterns. To create depth choose pop dots to raise the centre theme and notion. Voila a beautiful card!

Use paper cutter for straight edges and to ensure even shape. Then trim edges with verigated scissors if desired.
