DIY Homemade Pillows by Sewing Machine
Do-it-Yourself Pillow Covers Instructions
First you will need a bag of cotton material or pillow forms for stuffing your pillows. The cotton stuffing or pillow forms for making pillows can be bought at craft stores such as Michael's Joann's, Walmart, etc. Then you will need fabric material for the pillows, it's a good idea to get fabric that matches your furniture or other items in that room.
Some people that sew make their pillows by hand and some make pillows on a sewing machine. When buying thread, try using the good quality sewing machine thread and the good quality sewing machine needles. Measure your fabric for a standard size couch/sofa pillow at 15" x 15". Then begin to cut out the fabric material for the pillow cover; you'll need two 15" x 15" squares of fabric for one single pillow.
Now turn the fabric inside out, place one square of fabric on top of the other square. Begin sewing all three side of the fabric leaving one side of the fabric square open, and make sure to go over the stitch once again to secure the stitching. Sew the pillow seams down on all three sides to lock-in the stitch.
Now flip the pillow fabric inside-out to the outside part of the pillow cover, and start stuffing the cotton material inside the opening side of the already sewed pillow cover. The more cotton you add the better because pillows may get flatter over time. To finalize the pillow you would just have to sew down the last opening side of the pillow, make sure it's secure by sewing down the last seam at least 2-3 times.
The reason for sewing the sides of the pillow 2-3 times is to make sure the pillow will not fall apart when washed in a washing machine.
