Humphrey DeForest Bogart (1899-1957) was born in New York City, New York.
Starting off as the villain in many crime dramas of the 1930s, he evolved into the archetypal hard-boiled detective in films like The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep, the success of Casablanca cemented his status as one of the great Hollywood heroes.
Bogart won a Best Actor Oscar for The African Queen (1951), he also received Best Actor nominations for Casablanca (1942) and The Caine Mutiny (1954).
He married actress Lauren Bacall in 1945, his foutth marriage lasted until his death from cancer in 1957. They had two children.
