My local potter is famous!
Jerry Brown is a living legend.
I was studying about the town I live in now and was surprised to learn that we have a famous potter in Hamilton,Alabama his name is Jerry Brown.
Jerry is a 9th generation potter and is famous for his whimsical art especially his face jugs, his mill is built from an old barn and he continues to use traditional methods including digging his own clay with his mule Blue, also he uses Blue (his mule) to power his pug mill and he fires most of his work in a brick kiln.
Jerry Brown was the 1992 National Endowment for the arts National Heritage Fellowship award winner and the recipient of 2003 Alabama Folk Heritage Award.
If you stop by Hamilton and visit Jerry you can visit his shop and see his mule Blue have a coke & a chew of tobacco. It is awesome. I have added a map below to make it easy for you to find.
I would like to personally thank Jerry for helping to keep a dying art alive and for all he has done for North Alabama and the arts.
