Free Cosmetic Bag Pattern To Make Your Very Own Cosmetic Bag
Why Make Your Own Cosmetic Bag?
Cosmetic bags are fast becoming a very popular gift choice for bridesmaids at weddings. They come in different shapes, colors, and sizes. Some online wedding stores even offer various personalization options. But the price of these beauties can send your wedding cost skyrocketing.
These bags could cost somewhere between $5 to $34 dollars each or more, depending on your personalization options. And since that's probably not going to be the only gift you hand out at your wedding, you may end up spending a lot of money on parting gifts alone.
So for those of you brides-to- be, and mothers of brides-to-be who want to cut cost and save some money, making your own cosmetic bags may be the way to go. Especially if you prefer it in a specific type of fabric, color, or style, with your very own personalized notes.
This tutorial makes the assumption that you at least know how to sew. So, if you don't know how to sew, or at least have an 'Aunt Sally' who is willing to do it for you, then this is probably not for you.
Do-It-Yourself Cosmetic Bag Pattern
The first step to making your own cosmetics bag is the pattern. Now, you can get patterns for cosmetics bags at any fabric store. All the popular pattern catalogs have different variations of patterns for cosmetic bags.
The goal here is to cut cost. So, let’s use something you probably have right there by your computer. One computer paper will do. You can also use Parchment Paper for oven baking if you have those. Just cut it into a rectangular shaper of about 9" X 11". You can then follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Take the 8.5” X 11” paper (or the cut parchment paper) and turn it landscape mode. (See image below).
Step 2: Fold paper right in the middle as shown in the image (image below).
In the next step, we'll be cutting the paper into shape, and marking the seam lines etc.
Cutting Out The Purse's Pattern
Step 3: With a scissors, cut off the upper right corner of the open side, following a 3 inches mark on both the top and open side of folded paper. (See image below)
Step 4: Unfold to reveal your plain paper pattern. You should have a shape that looks more like an arch, or a rectangle rounded at the top left and right corner.
The next step is to take your plain paper pattern, and mark it so it's easy for any one to know what it is for. Be sure to write all the texts on the pattern as seen below.
Free Purse Pattern Is Sew Ready!
Marking & Labeling the Cosmetic Bag Pattern
Now that the paper is cut and shaped, you are now ready to mark and label your pattern to make it ready for cutting and sewing your purse fabrics. You will need a solid surface, like a table or counter. You will also need the followings: a tape rule or ruler. Preferably, a ruler. Pen or pencil for marking and labeling. You can also use a fabric marker
- Place the pattern on a solid surface. Using a ruler, pen or pencil, mark the points on your pattern (left side) that gives you exactly 7 inches from top to bottom as shown (Step 1 in the image below).
- Mark the two beginning and end points. Also mark the 5.5 inch point. From the 5.5 inch point, draw a dashed line to either edge of the pattern as shown (Step 1). Repeat for the right side.
- Mark all the other points as shown on (Step 2 in the image below). Points Bs, Cs, Es and Xs are .5 inch (half an inch) from the edge of the pattern paper. These marks the .5 seam allowance. The distance between B and X is about 1 inch.
