Original Modern Landscape Design

Updated on August 31, 2012

Today’s designers can turn a small area near the house into an oasis and this original design helps to reveal the individuality of the hosts. Modern landscape is an adaptive style of garden that is ideal for present-day living.

Designers can help you plan a modern landscape design that go well with your home, as well as your lifestyle - offering expert advice on the best plants, materials, and accessories to create a spectacular open-air space that is both well-designed and deluxe.

Many owners of houses are trying to design their own plot for the reason that there is a good choice of various decorative materials and plants that can realize any idea. The main thing to take into consideration here is the advice of designers to those who independently design a place - do not overdo it.  Harmony, above all – there should be harmony between the house and plot, between the different zones of the landscape and the surrounding area.

If your site is located near the river or forest, you have already a beautiful landscape and you only need to emphasize this harmony. If the plot is flat, without much vegetation areas – there is needed much effort, though, very soon you will get a real paradise.

How to start a landscape design?

There are some basic ideas to get start a landscape design. Generally speaking, garden, house and other surrounding structures are necessary to design, together, simultaneously. It is worth mentioning that the garden is never built once and forever. Garden – is alive, it changes from year to year, from season to season and requires constant care.

Start of work on designing of landscape design

Let's start landscaping with your own hands, though if you do not feel confident that you can do all the work by yourself, then leave this to the professionals.

The main steps of landscape design

So, the first step here to take into consideration is the project.

Step 1. Project
1. Define the style for your landscape design.
In principle, there are two main styles - regular and landscape, however, there are many more styles.
Regular style is a harmonious combination of straight lines and geometric shapes. The first regular-style garden was designed and implemented in Italy, later applied and developed in France. The second name in the regular garden-style - "French" gardens. If your garden is based on the rules of the regular style, everything in it should highlight the characteristics mentioned above.

Landscape style or informal style is a combination of smooth lines and curves, which is normal for wildlife. It is important to show that nature has an impact on people, not vice versa. Landscape style implies a minimization of any human influence on nature.

Oriental style is based on philosophy of the Ancient East. This style of characters, there are no extra elements. According to the philosophy, there are five elements, around which there are all living and nonliving, water, earth, stone, air and plants. We can say that the oriental style in landscape design it is something similar to the minimalism, there is no diversity and number of plants and architectural forms (Japanese Garden and Chinese Garden).

Another style is so-called "timber" style of landscape design. It is the style for the lazy. There is no need to change anything; nature itself has created a garden. In fact, it is quite hard work to create such a garden, you will need to prove the natural origin.

There is still a very nice style rustic or country style. This full-line of national culture and traditions, "Rural" style governs the closeness to nature. The simplicity and naturalness - that's what distinguishes this style from the others.

Plants with varying textures can add to the ambiance of your outdoor area.

Step 2. Zoning of the site
At this stage we need to divide the garden into functional zones. After all, it is important to create not only a beautiful garden, but also make it easier to use. As a rule, distribute such functional areas:

1. Entrance to the garden. Pay full attention to this area, in fact, this will be your garden. This zone will be seen firstly, so it is important to build the right impression. This area should be combined with the style of the garden.

2. Economic Zone. This includes all the buildings (garages, garden, etc). They should be discreet so as not to attract attention. Try to separate this area from the garden. You can use the creepers, hedges.

3. Privacy Zone. Part of the garden designed for privacy, there may be an arbor, rockeries or decorative pond. This zone can be hidden by using a hedge.
There can be added also other zones for recreation, playground, and parking lot.

Step 3. Defining the main decorative elements of the garden
It is important to identify those elements of your garden that will be the center. For example, a decorative pond, stream, alpine garden (rock garden), etc.  Maybe you want to apply some ethnic garden, for example, Chinese garden or Japanese garden.

Linear patterns are used to direct physical movement and to draw attention to areas in your garden.

Form can be expressed through trees and bushes of diverse shapes and sizes that will create natural patterns

Step 4. Now you need to make a choice of plants for planting
There is a piece of advice to take into consideration; you should not experiment and ask the experts. Surely it is not difficult to choose a bush, a small tree some other decorative plants for your garden. But it is not that simple. It is necessary to consider the degree of illumination, humidity, soil composition, protection from wind, etc.

Try to combine the elements of landscaping together (color, line, form, texture, scale) in order to develop a garden design that will be attractive and inviting.

Incorporating Fruit trees in Landscape Design

Including fruit trees into your landscape design just makes good sense. Having an obvious benefit of having fruit available for consumption, fruit trees are attractive. What can be more beautiful than an apple or pear tree blooming in the early spring? The delicate blossoms fill the air with a lovely smell and look like lace decorating the branches. As the season changes and the year moves toward summer, dark green shiny leaves create the shelter providing a place of safety for birds. In the autumn it will give the tastiest fruits.

Hi Mike! Thank you for your appreciation and nice words!

I think no matter what you have, a small or a large yard, landscape design can easily adapt it to suit the style of your home and to create a beautiful and functional outdoor space without detracting from the natural beauty surrounding it.

I am always amazed at the beauty that comes from a professionally landscaped area. Landscaping is a true art form and adds considerable beauty to our lives. There is a famous crop artist in my area named Stan Herd who does amazing things. While not the same as landscaping, the results are also beautiful.

Thanks for sharing this, the photos were remarkable.
