My Crochet Goals for 2012

My Inspiration for My Goals

The purpose of this hub is to publicly state my crochet goals for 2012. I am hoping that it will keep me motivated and increase my chances of achieving each and every one of them.

One of my goals is to write lots of hubs here on hubpages. But first, I want to thank Arlene V. Poma for inspiring me to take on a 30/30 challenge here at hubpages. If she hadn’t inspired me to do so, then I wouldn’t be writing this hub right now.

Originally, I was going to do the challenge in Dec. 2011, but didn’t have the time, and to be honest, I had no idea what to write about at the time. But after brainstorming a bit, I have managed to come up with more crochet topics than I can handle right now. So my goal is to make 2012 the best year ever, not only for writing, but also in designing new crochet patterns, as well as to help others in learning how to crochet.

Another inspiration that I got was from Jorine Tieleman, who invited me to join a 365 Day Granny Square Challenge, which I was eager to accept. You can sign up for the challenge at her website by sending her an email. Her website is in dutch (I think), but you can use Google Translator to translate it into any language that you want.

So here are some of my crochet goals:

Goal #1 - Write Lots of Hubs

My first goal for 2012 is to finish the 30/30 challenge here on Hubpages. Even though I have not published any yet, I started writing on January 1st and hope to complete 30 hubs by the 30th of January.

Depending on how well it goes and if I don’t fall too far behind in my other work, then I might do the challenge again in another month. My wishful mind thinks that I might be able to challenge myself to do challenge perhaps every other month or so.

Goal #2 - Granny Square a Day

My second goal is to complete the 365 day granny square challenge, in which I will crochet one square each day for 365 days and then join them together at the end for a super large afghan. For this challenge, I will be working with 3” squares in order to keep the afghan smaller.

Doing this challenge will give me the opportunity to design plenty of granny square. And I know it sounds crazy, but wouldn’t it be something if I could design a new square every day for 365 days? Of course they wouldn’t all be for the same afghan, but how hard could it be? I will not make this an official goal, but it is something that I will work on when I have time. And at the end of the year I’ll count to see how many I did design.

Goal #3 - Design Lots of New Crochet Patterns

Design lots of free crochet patterns. Last year I started to keep track of all the ideas for new crochet patterns that I want to design, and I hope to complete some of them in 2012.

Here are a few of my ideas:

  • Lacy Wrap
  • Lacy Shawl
  • Earflap Hat
  • Cabled Hat
  • Cabled Hooded Scarf
  • Yoga Beanie
  • Tapestry Yoga Mat
  • Yoga Cushion
  • Yoga Shirt (tank top)
  • Long Lacy Jacket
  • Tapestry Baby Bib
  • Toddler Dress
  • Bag
  • Beaded Bag
  • Wallet
  • Beaded Wallet
  • Barbie Doll Clothes
  • A Loopy Bathmat
  • Broomstick Lace Granny Square
  • Afghan with multiple sized squares to create a quilted design. (this will be on top of my 365 day granny challenge)
  • Afghan Square Baby Blanket (this is also in addition to the granny challenge)
  • Round Baby Blanket
  • Amigurumi - I do not have an idea in mind yet for what it will be. But it is my goal to design my first amigurumi pattern some time this year.
  • Back Scrubber
  • Round Doily
  • Pineapple Pattern - Again, I do not know yet what it will be, but it is my goal to design something with a pineapple design.
  • Fingerless Gloves

I have many other pattern ideas written down, but I will post these for now and see where my inspiration leads me. I might get to all of these, or I might not. One thing is for certain, it will take a lot of hard work and dedication if I am going to design all of them.

Goal #4 - Help Others Learn to Crochet

My fourth goal is to write helpful articles and create videos that will help others to learn how to crochet. I will be writing these articles here on hubpages, and the videos will be linked from my youtube account. Right now, for my goal, I am going to say that I want to create one new video each week. (I openly admit that my videos are not the greatest, but with practice, they can only get better.)

These are a lot of goals for me right now. I can not promise that I will be able to keep up with them, but I will give it my best shot. Also, I would love to hear what your goals are for the new year. Feel free to post them below.

This hub will be updated at the end of each month to let you know about my progress, and to re-inspire myself to keep at it.

Thanks! It's always a good feeling to finish those "UFOs". I have a few of them myself, but they are put on hold for now.

Go for it! My #1 goal is to either finish or repurpose the UFOs in my craft closet.

PWalker, Thanks, I found your hub and as always, I learned a few things by reading it.

Craftdrawer, thank you. For me writing is very difficult at this time, and I can already see myself falling behind with a few other things, but it is definitely worth it. If you can find the time, then you should definitely go for it.

It's the one about my best and worst hubs of 2011.

Let's see how many I'll be able to achieve, but it never hurts to put it out there. All my patterns will be free and available on my website.

Now I'm off to find your hub.

      Thank you for rating.

These are impressive goals, indeed, Rhelena! I've found that my crochet hubs get the most page views (see my hub about it) so you are smart to focus your hubs on that topic. And I'm also finding that readers LOVE free patterns (although I don't know if you plan to sell yours or not).

Best of luck with your goals. Rated up and interesting.
