One of the last Christmas presents my mother ever gave to me. She didn't fill it with flowers, but with Andes Creme de Menthe and Andes Cherry Jubilee mints. That bowl was full!

Charles Wysocki puzzles?

I first discovered Charles Wysocki at Wal-mart. Yes, Wal-mart. I was with my mother, shopping, and she told me to pick out a puzzle for her. The Charles Wysocki line just drew me in!

During the winter months, my mother liked to work puzzles to pass the time when it was just too cold to be outside. Some she would even glue together to make wall hangings. One year, I helped her with one and it's the Charles Wysocki I have posted here. I treasure it not only because we worked on it together, but because my dad made the frame for it. I know that puzzles aren't exactly fine art, but I like it.

Until recently, I didn't know too much about Mr. Wysocki. I was happy just appreciating his art. Thanks to Google and a free afternoon, I now know a few facts that I'd like to share.

Did you know that Charles Wysocki...

...was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1928.

...had a father that was a Polish immigrant.

...was drafted into the United States Army in 1950.

...spent 2 years in the Army stationed in Hanau, Germany.

...went to school at the Art Center in Los Angeles, CA.

...opened his own advertising agency named "Group West".

...married another artist in 1960.

...was the proud father of 3 children.

...published two books: "An American Celebration" and "Heartland".

...died on July 29, 2002.

Here are a few of my favorites from Charles Wysocki. The cat series holds a special place in my heart, but I absolutely adore all of his artwork!
