My Newest Project: Patreon

Updated on October 22, 2017

My newest love is Patreon. I discovered the site a few weeks ago. It is a site for artists (including writers) to make some money through donations. The donators are called "patrons".

They pay a monthly fee, or an amount per project. They get rewards in return. It might be a behind the scenes look at your work, or even physical rewards such as paintings and drawings.

I started an account yesterday for my paintings and writing. No patrons yet, but that is to be expected. I plan on posting every day, one or maybe two posts a day maximum. About half will be paintings etc. The other half will be my thoughts and feelings.

My rewards are simple, just a first look at new art, and access to my private feed. That is why I only have a $1 tier. I may make other tiers later, when I come up with new rewards.

You can view my Patreon page by clicking on the link on my profile here at HubPages.

My Patreon Feed

A Patreon feed is like a blog. It can be as long or as short as you want, it's all your own.

My feed is where I post my artwork. I also will be posting random essays about my thoughts on different subjects. I plan on posting every day, maybe more than once a day. I will put a lot of work into it. This is a fun project for me. I don't expect to get a lot out of it money wise. I expect to get a lot out of it therapy wise instead. That will be my focus. If I get patrons who pay, all the better. Then I will have a bit of extra cash for art supplies.

I have three posts up so far, two paintings and a general blog post about me. Tomorrow I will post a work in progress.

I plan on doing this for a month, and see how it goes. Even if I don't get any patrons, I may keep it going for a while. It's not a lot of extra work. I'm going to paint and write anyway. It just takes a few minutes to post every day.

I have my Patreon link up in several places. I am looking for more places to promote it. I think promotion will be the key in getting patrons. How else will anyone see my page?

I am going to post about esoteric topics often. Strange mysteries of the universe, like my Patreon page says. Synchronicities, sacred geometry, chakras, spirituality, consciousness. All the topics I'm interested in.

I have about five or six new paintings to post on Patreon right now. I'm going to post a new one every few days, and make text posts in between. Sometimes just posts about my life. I feel a lot of freedom there. Since no one is reading anything yet, and most of the posts will be for patrons only, it feels kind of weird. Kind of like writing in a diary or something.

My Art

I mostly do abstract acrylic paintings. I also make dolls from polymer clay and other materials. I create the occasional collage as well. I am not a professional, I am a hobbyist. I still consider myself an artist. I used to sketch a lot, but not so much anymore. I'm not sure why I stopped doing it. I think when I started painting, I fell in love with it. I am good at sculpting, and somewhat good at drawing. But I don't think I'm very good at painting. But I love it and I'm not going to stop.

I want to look back in a year and see how much I have improved. Maybe I will do a year-long project with Patreon. I'm not sure I'll stick with it that long though if I don't get any patrons. We'll have to see. For now, I will just keep at it. I have just begun. It is fun so far.

Currently I am working on two paintings, two pages in my art journal, and a spirit doll. I would also like to start a collage within the next day or two. I have a few ideas for that.

I will keep this post updated with my progress.

My husband and I did a crowdfunding campaign to purchase some farming equipment we needed.

Our next adventure will be getting a sailboat and go cruising. For that, we hope to use Patreon as many people are funding their voyages with the funds they raise.

Good luck with your fundraising, I hope it is successful for you.
