Picture-Matching Quiz: How well do you know European paintings?

Updated on February 1, 2012

© 2012 by Aurelio Locsin

The following matching quiz tests your knowledge of Western art. Simply match the letter of artist’s name on the left with the number of the painting on the right. You can click the picture to enlarge it.

Only one artist goes with one painting. But just to make it more challenging, one of the artist’s on the right has no matching artwork. This quiz is meant to test your knowledge, so no unfair peeking at Google search results or art books. Check out the answers after the quiz and post your score in the Poll and Comments.

Please put any suggestions for improvement in Comments as well.

Hi, I definitely got the Da Vinci, and funnily enough I remembered seeing Rembrandts paintings on tv recently, and the art historian saying you can always recognise Rembrandts because they come across as darker than the others, so I do take in some info sometimes! lol! great fun! thanks! rated up and shared, nell

I almost minored in art history so I'm pretty upset that I got two wrong! But I knew from just browsing which one wasn't included. Great hub! Makes me want to get more into art again. It's also nice that it's interactive and not just reading.

This was fun. A hub as a game. I got four right. I knew the Mary Casset painting and could guess Picasso, Monet and Da Vinci all by style. This was a good idea for a hub. If you decide to lengthen your hub, you might put a little bit about each painting or artist, but I think it is fine as is.
