Scrapbooking: techniques with perfect pearls

Updated on February 14, 2014

What will you need?

For these techniques you will need the following materials:

  • Perfect Medium ink pad
  • Perfect Pearl powder in different colours (of choice)
  • Cardstock (black or another dark colour of choice)
  • Heating tool
  • Thick/wide brush and a think/small brush
  • Stamp (s)
  • If wanted also embossing powder

Perfect Pearl background with a transparent stamp image

This technique plays a bit with the powder on top of the sticky ink of the Perfect medium and how it stays attached to it.

  • Take a piece of cardstock with the shape and measurement of choice. The darker the colour of the cardstock, the better you can see the result in the end.
  • Pick one or 2 colours of perfect pearl powder to use for the background. Apply the Perfect Medium ink to the cardstock by rubbing gently over the cardstock surface with the ink pad. The ink is transparant and is a bit sticky.
  • Now, take a brush and dip it slightly into one of the Perfect Pearl powders and apply the powder over the surface of the cardstock with the ink, as long as the ink is still sticky. The powder will stick to the cardstock in this manner. You can use another colour along with it to create your own pattern.
  • Carefully blow the excess powder of the cardstock
  • Choose a stamp image of your choice and place it on the ink pad of the Perfect Medium inkpad.
  • Now place the stamp on the powdered cardstock surface. The best effect is if you manage to get the stamp right the first time.

The result is that you see that the image of the stamp is visible (with the colour of the cardstock you chose) along with a shiny background of Perfect Pearl powder.

Colouring and embossing with Perfect Pearls

This technique shows two options of how to use Perfect Pearl powder to colour your stamp image. If you have a heating tool and embossing powder you can use them to give the whole image an embossing effect.

With embossing effect

  • Choose a colour and size/shape of cardstock according to your own choice.
  • Have the embossing powder ready, as right after the ink has been placed on the cardstock the embossing powder needs to be used
  • Choose a stamp image and use Versamark ink or Perfect Medium ink to place the stamp image on the cardstock
  • While the ink is still moist, spread the embossing powder over the ink and make sure it covers all the ink.
  • Save the excess powder by gently holding the cardstock on its side so that the powder comes off and you can place the powder back into the jar.
  • Try to use the brush (small) to clean the inside of your image from the embossing powder
  • Use the heating tool on the image and the embossing powder to give your image an embossing effect
  • Place a small bit of powder into a bowl or other surface that can hold water
  • Put 1 or 2 drops of water with the powder and mix it with the brush
  • Use the powder/water mix to colour in the image on the cardstock. You can use several colours of your choice.

Without embossing effect

  • Choose a colour and size/shape of cardstock according to your own choice.
  • Choose a stamp image and use Versamark ink (or another dark coloured stamping ink) to place the stamp image on the cardstock
  • Place a small bit of powder into a bowl or other surface that can hold water
  • Put 1 or 2 drops of water with the powder and mix it with the brush
  • Use the powder/water mix to colour in the image on the cardstock. You can use several colours of your choice.

Make a hidden stamp image appear with Perfect Pearl powder

This technique uses the Perfect Pearl powder to make a stamp image appear on dark cardsock.

  • For this technique you should use a dark colour cardstock.
  • Stamp one or more images on the cardstock using the Perfect Medium ink.
  • Take a soft and wide brush (e.g. a make up brush).
  • Use the brush with a colour Perfect Pearl powder of choice and gently brush the powder over the stamp image.

You will slowly see the stamp image appearing on the cardstock.

Perfect Pearl in spray-form

This technique uses a spray flacon and the Perfect Pearl powder with water.

  • For this technique you will need a spray flacon. You can buy one at a hobbyshop or use a perfume sample flacon for this.
  • Fill the flacon with a bit of water and add a bit of Perfect Pearl powder to the water.
  • Shake the flacon well to mix the powder with the water.
  • Hold the flacon not to close to the cardstock and spray it on. If wished you can use multiple colours.
  • It is possible that the cardstock will ripple a bit, but after the spray paint dries up the cardstock will turn flat again.
  • Once dry you see that the sprayed on Perfect Pearl colour gives a nice effect to your cardstock paper.
  • If you want, you could now use a stamp image on the cardstock to finish your project.
