Queen Seon Deok and the Challenge of TV Photography
Why Queen Seon Deok?
Because everything about it fascinated me or still fascinates me... From the story, settings, to actresses Lee Yo Won as Deokman, Go Hyun Jung as Mishil, to good looking actors Uhm Tae Wong as Yushin Rang and Kim Nam Gil as Bidam. The effect of QSD is like magic that lingers to everyone who watched it. Even the Soundtrack or OST is the best. I just can't get over that "Windflower", and Bidam Song...
Before I got hooked with this drama, I was grieving for the death of my 6 years old dog Pissy, watching QSD diverted my attention, and although I still miss my dog, QSD already brought back the inspiration in me... Well hard to believe and can be exaggerated, but as long as it gives positive effect to me and my aura, I really wont mind. I am still living the real life anyway, and to admire my all time favorite actress Lee Yo Won is not a bad idea... am I alone to see her this way? of course not... many of us like her because we like the way she handled herself in every role she portrayed and she's really beautiful..
Lee Yo Won as Queen Seon Deok, I can't imagine anyone in that role

QSD's Ending Moments
Now with Queen Seon Deok nearing ends, I decided to make a memorabilia for myself, which will not make me grab somebody else's photo at the net. Too sad that when I realized about this, QSD is already in the latter part of the story. But then it's good too, considering that it is indeed a very long soap opera, I may not be able to include all my favorite scene so, concentrating on the ending will be best....
I have interacted with Fellow QSD and Lee Yo Won fans and we all have the same feelings with QSD, "We can't seem to get over it", though we were divided by Group Yudeok and Group Bideok, it just added spice in our never ending story telling in any QSD, Lee Yo Won forum. WE all love QSD, we share and discuss about our favorite scenes.. We all enjoyed or (still enjoying) QSD into pieces, but hate the ending..... but I guess that is the secret of the story....that is why fans can get over it because all them had other better endings in minds.
All QSD Actors and Actresses are great
Uhm Tae Wong or Yushin Rang
Deokman and Yushin
The love story angle of Queen Seon Deok divided the fans that regularly watch the soap opera. I am obviously in favor of Deokman and Yushin. Their devotion for each other is almost as lasting as the world, but both of them set aside personal whims for the sake of Silla and its people... I love all the episodes showing the "Ups and Downs" of their love for one another. And watching the drama several times, I made my own analysis of their suppressed love.... it lacks perfect timing.... No question about love it's deep within them but, they just can't have the same intensity at the same time, because other priorities always got in the way or stronger emotion overwhelmed either one of them... For example, when Princess Chumyeong died, Yushin was the one determined to leave with Deokman away from Silla. He chose Deokman over his Silla, his family and his dream, but Deokman still mourning her sister's death, chose to stay at Silla, claimed her real life, and turned her back to what Yushin was offering her...
At episode 37 when Yushin decided to give up to Mishil just to save the Gaya people, it was Deokman's turned to get emotional, but Yushin was determined to save Gaya sacrificing his personal happiness and he ended up marrying Yeong Mo, Mishil's granddaughter.
That actually was one of my favorite scene... Yushin's wedding while Deokman was with Wolya and Seolji, the background music was perfect and Seolji's voice too while telling the Princess how they both (Yushin and Deokman) save the gaya people from hunger etc... I really feel for Deokman in this scene... I am a woman too hahahah..
Just like what Yushin said, Silla is the only thing that connects him and Her highness, this is because He and Princess Deokman shared the same passion for Silla and the Grandeur Dream of unifying the three Kingdom, they both sacrifice personal emotions. But in the end, the Queen decided to join Bidam in conjugal ties, inspite of doubt in herself if she is still capable of loving a person when Silla almost took all her heart away... Yushin as honorable as he is, accepted his defeat, by telling the Queen that only Bidam can give her the solace that she needs or looks for, and he even apologized to her for being incapable to give her comfort, because we all know, how Yushin unintentionally hurt the queen because of his principle with regards to Gaya People. but we all knew that everything he did, he did it not for himself alone but for the Queen...but when the Queen chose Bidam over him, Yushin apologized for all his shortcomings... for when he decided to serve his ruler (who is the queen) he decided to turn his back on the woman he loves so much(who is Deokman) I guess that's what made the story more interesting and magical....

Kim Nam Gil or Bidam
Deokman and Bidam
The other half of QSD fans went wild to this couple; The love story started only almost in the last few episodes of the soap opera, but the impact is absolutely great..(I wonder why? Peace Bideok joke only). When Bidam came in the story, Yushin and Deokman love story was just starting, he was even a witness of theirr petty arguments, of Yushin's love for Deokman, and he was even with Deokman at the time, the Princess was grieving for Yushin's decision to join Yeong Mo in conjugal ties. Come on! Bidam witnessed everything, he knew what Yushin meant to her that he even went on his way to help yushin won the Pungwolju competition, because he knew it was Princess Deokman's greatest wish....He witnessed how Deokman tried to take care of Yushin while the one was still recuperating from his fatique after the contest.... not only that, during Mishil's martial law, I know you've seen this too, when the Princess with Chun chu was about to escape the palace and Yushin chose to be left behind, Bidam witnessed how the Princess became hysterical upon knowing that Yushin will not escape with them but instead chose to stay to stop those who will attempt to run after her. Bidam witnessed it all and yet he became an instant relief to the Princess' pains and heartaches.
Unlike Yushin, Bidam cares for the Princess more than anyone else in the world, or more than Silla. I am especially touched with the agreement he wrote himself, that if the Queen Died before him, he will leave Silla and his power and will not aspire for the Throne, for a nation will mean nothing to him without the Queen Deokman that he loves so much. About the Queen's personal feeling with Bidam, I want to believe she really has a feeling for Bidam, it was not realized instantly because she was in love with Yushin for the longest time and no one knows if she really ended that feeling or not, But then her decision to join Bidam in conjugal ties was based ,maybe on the reason that Bidam is more willing to give up everything for her.
Very touching love story that fits them
Princess Deokman is just like any ordinary Aunt who cares for her one and only nephew
Maybe one of the reasons why I love Queen seon Deok is I can relate to her. I mean regardless of Time difference all the feelings expressed in the soap opera are common human expressions... I see myself in her when she excitedly went to Inggang Palace to see Chunchu, and almost ran to her quarters when she thought Chunchu went there to greet her... She was still a nice Aunt, even if her nepher was not so nice in the beginning... Deokman was even willing to sacrifice her dream of becoming a Queen just to give to way Chunchu. One of my favorite and I consider most touching scene in QSD is when Chunchu finally joined her Aunt, and he asked he if she can vanguish Mishil, then he cried, calling his Mother and asked his aunt if she shed as many tears as he had... the background music which is the "Windflower" was just perfect in that scene, and Deokman was also shedding tears and embraced her nephew.... for me this is just unforgetable
After that scene, the Aunt-Nephew relationship became even better.... those scenes showing Deokman's concern for her nephew are few of my favorites. When they were escaping during Mishil Martial law, one soldier captured Chun chu and used him as hostage, and although Chunchu told his aunt to just leave him, Deokman dropped her sword and surrender, good thing Bidam came to rescue them. I remember Chunchu's reaction when he found out thru Yushin that her aunt went back to palace all by herself to confront Mishil and ask for open questioning. I remember Deokman almost had a heart attack when Chunchu was hit by an arrow, and she was really furious in the assemby hall....
I love it when she asked for Chunchu's opinion, and I really love it the most when she shared with Chunchu the covenant that Bidam wrote and asked his opinion about it...
I am deeply touch with their relationship, because it feels like they only have each other as family....
Chunchu- the Nephew
Rivalry between Yushin and Bidam
Bidam has reasons not to feel good for Yushin. Aside from holding Princess Deokman's heart, he unconsciously convinced Munno that he is the right person to own the books on geographies of the three Kingdoms. But Bidam maybe is insecure the most because Deokman only got her eyes on Yushin, and Bidam knew it all... Even in the latter part of the story he even asked the Queen, that if she will order him, he will do everything to save Yushin and will release Yushin from the Royal Inspectorate jail. But for me this is one of the saddest part of the story, how the characters changed and became opponent in the end..
I still love and prefer the early part of Queen Seon Deok when Bidam and Yushin joined hands to rescue the princess.
Bidam and Yushin or Yushin and Bidam
The Romance, so simple but deep..
Bidam and Deokman scene
When Bidam insisted that the Queen should rest and sleep, that signals their mutual acknowledgement of what they are to one another. This is Deokman's or the Queen's first real relationship, where there is no need to suppress love anymore. It was very heartwarming and romantic. No kissing scene or excessing hugging but indeed love and care is in the air. I would like to commend Kim Nam Gil for great acting. The way I commend Uhm Tae Wong when he stared at Deokman with outpouring love. In this scene, Bidam's facial expression showed so much love to the Queen.... I guess this scene is one of the reasons why fans are mesmerized in their team up... and it's not even enough....
When Deokman gave Bidam a ring
the ring she gave him is similar to what she is wearing. Though I go for Yushin-Deokman, I was or I am specially touch to this . I feel for Bidam, he is a bit pathetic in this scene. He loves the queen so much but he failed to control his follower to get in the way. I guess this scene is one of the reasons why Bideok fans are crazy about them. The holding of hands really said a lot... and the suppressed love.... I guess it's the acting of Kim Nam Gil and Lee Yo Won, that made us televiewers to get affected too.. I am just wondering how are they feeling now after Queen Seon Deok, are they aware of the impact that they left us... what made this different to other love story that we had witnessed in the past? This is just great...no kissing scene or love scene and yet you feel real love.... deep love
How one's intention can ruin a good relationship
Bidam Deokman Drifting apart
It supposed to be a good love but people around them were against it, the worst they did everything to keep them separated, especially those of Bidam's followers. They just did not approved of the edict the Bidam wrote, that he will leave all his power and will not aspire for the throne once the Queen died ahead of him. If only Bidam followed Deokman's order for him to go and stay at Usan, it could be a different story...But Bidam's character is not the type to just keep quiet especially if he is the reason of the commotion. and that is the chance Yeomjong was waiting.. He knew Bidam's weakness and he knew how to fool him. Poor Bidam... I really pity him in the story...
The Queen's letter to Bidam
Too many If only's
The latter part of QSD has too many if only's. If only Bidam followed the Queen's order to just proceed to Usan, it could have been a different story. If only Bidam had enough trust with the Queen, before believing Yeomjong he must have returned to the palace and asked the queen instead... If only the Queen can take back her command, to just apprehend Bidam alive instead of capturing him dead at least they can settlle the roots and issue and punish Bidam accordingly.... The sad thing is they all know the subterfuges created by Yeomjong and Mishil's clan and yet it's like too late for them to settle it because the order to kill Bidam was already said. And Bidam why did he choose to get close to the queen that way... why chose to kill lots of soldiers and get killed too...
I find it very sad and . I can feel for Yushin when he asked the queen first, what to do in case they have captured Bidam, and the queen told him if he is asking if she changed her mind about her "killed Bidam Order", but the queen did not take back her command, though Bidam's death will hurt her too. I am specially touch when Yushin told Bidam to just stop it, but Bidam instead asked him for a real Duel for they never really had one... but the truth is he didn't face him but instead run forward near the queen, he said Forgive me Yushin we didn't really need to fight, you already won a lot of fights already... Resentment for Yushin's success I think?
But this is sad especially if we looked back on how they helped each other in the early episode and how their characters changed.
Bidam's dying trust for the Queen
Can't Imagine the feeling
But if you fell in love intensely you'll surely feel for them... Bidam's reaction is normal....I guess with or without trust, that will be the initial reaction.. but after crying a lot, if I were him I will still talk to the Queen and tell her about it... beyond space and time, communication is indeed very important. But maybe it's part of the story... For Bidam to have trust issue.... For him to have weak character because of a mother who abandoned him, a master whom he believed took care of him because of his calling and not because he cared enough for him... When did he start doubting Deokman, Is it after Chun chu talked with him? this soap opera really turned our head upside down
In Queen Deokman's case, How would you feel if you saw your ring returned to you in a manner that it was placed in the corpse body... when you suddenly realized the one you chose to spend the rest of your lives with, had turned his back on you because of lack of trust.....NOt just for personal feelings but the shame it brought to her.
Definitely Queen Deokman had endured a lot of pain... and Bidam too...
When Bidam learned the truth from Jukbang, he didn't believe him at first, but then he let him go back to the queen and still very furious... but deep inside he knew something was wrong....this is what so sad about the story, as if there is no way to correct the mistakes and attempting to correct it or to go back to the queen means death.... One thing led to another, just when Bidam knew the truth, the command from the queen announcing Bidam as Enemy of Silla.
When Bidam Died
Watching Queen Seon Deok in my DVD player several times, I always find myself skipping this part. It is just too sad, and something inside of me is shouting that, Bidam's ending is just too cruel... But then I guess that is what made the story so unforgetable. I will say this again, QSD has lingering effects to all of its viewers. The actors and actress of the QSD have already moved on and started working on a new soap opera and movie, but the televiewers remained passionate with the film.
Why Bidam's death is sad...first, because we want him and deokman to end up together and no one maybe expected his tragic ending. Second, looking back on how he became instrumental in saving the princess, we have no choice but to regret what happened. It could also be the same feeling that the Queen felt. Aside from Love to a fiancé, Bidam was also a long time friend and follower. Her shoulder to cry on during her heartbreaks with Yushin, the one that treated her as a woman and the one who is willing to call her deokman.
You can't blame yushin when he asked the Queen first what to do in case they have captured Bidam, he also won't mind if the queen changed her mind, because in spite of differences with Bidam, too, they were friends and they walked along those arduous paths in supporting the princess. And he also cares for what the queen would feel...
Very sad Death Scene
Still with Yushin in the end of her life
Though it is sad, this is one of my favorite scene.until her death, Yushin was with her. Again I am touched with their timeless devotion, may it mean friendship or more, their love and confidence with one another is beyond compare. The Queen died very sad in the aspect of emotional fulfillment. Will it be more depressing if they showed the Queen's funeral and the lamentation of her supporters, closest friends, and love ones? I guess if those scenes were added tears will surely overflow.... the more it will have a lingering effects on us.... the focus on her hand that wore a ring, is an indication that she died at that moment in the mountain with Yushin on her side. again simple but with deep impact.
The Queen's Dream
The kind of ending that you can never forget
again though it is sad, I can say that the ending is good. The woman that embraced her in her dream as young deokman is herself, and she finally recognized her when she was nearing death. Her words has a very dramatic effect, telling young deokman that she will have arduous path ahead of her and she will see most of her love ones died. She said being a queen will make you feel like you gained everything but the truth is she gained nothing, probably referring to the sadness of walking the path alone.
But though in tears she smiled, saying that the yound deokman will be stronger enough to face all her adversities....her smile made me realized that maybe it is not too sad after all.
Favorite Scene in Black and White
Just love the Nangdo days
What is TV Photography?
This is very simple., I am sure I am not the first to do this thing. TV Photography is obviously combining two channels to have an output. Even non professional can do this. All you need is Digital Camera and a Television Set. I am just using a Polaroid 7mp Digicam, the quality of the photos that you can produce depends on you, so you develop your own technique here, but I am going to share with you what I observe helped me produces some good photos.
